Bach Stradivarius Centennial 190-43 Trumpet
2nd Generation Design
The original Bach Centennial was released in 2018 to commemorate 100 years of Vincent Bach manufacturing (originally just mouthpieces). Now as part of the 2023/2024 Bach refresh, the new 2nd Gen Bach Centennial Strad is the next level of the vaunted design. The original Centennial was a 190S-43 with gold trim. The gold trim was removed from the model a year latter but the base 190-43 model remained in production in standard lacquer & silver finishes. The 2nd Gen Bach Centennial models maintain the same core design as the 1st gen (a throw-back to the vintage Bach’s made in Mt. Vernon with a #43 bell) but have been update with new bracing to improve response and consistency. The 2nd Gen model is also outfitted with a completely new case from Bach.
2nd Gen Z-Bracing
The new 2nd Gen Centennial Bach sees one major change in design from the original model(s): Cast Nickel-Silver Z Bracing. These are the 2 braces between the leadpipe and bell. The new cast nickel-silver gives a more consistent part to assemble with than the previous braces (made from bent brass). The casting processes makes the brace to be the exact same shape each time, rather than a straight piece that is bent in to shape. In theory, this should give a better assembly consistency as the brace soldering on Bach’s is one of the most important things to a horn’s responsiveness. If assembled well, a horn vibrates freely. If assembled poorly (under stress), the horn will play dull. The cast part should help immensely in this… but we still will inspect every single Bach in our store to make sure that it is done properly!
The use of Nickel-Silver in the casted brace will also increase the mass of these braces which will further assist in vibration transfer throughout the whole horn. These braces act as a “vibration bridge”, much like a sound post in a violin. So while the quality of the assembly is the most important with these braces, the mass will allow for more vibration transfer from each piece assisting in improving response.
“Every Bach 190 Stradivarius Trumpet is completely inspected and tested in our Bach ProShop to guarantee it’s quality. Any Bach 190 that does not meet our standards is sent back to Bach.”
Dave Kessler
Additional Information
Bach 190 Series
The Bach Centennial is part of the Strad Premium 190 models, which are a throw-back to the vintage Mt. Vernon Bachs. These models us the 2 piece valve casings with nickel-silver upper balusters, new nickel-silver casted Z braces & use a larger bell.
These features (other than the side seam bell) will give the Bach 190-43 a thicker core to it’s sound compared to a 180-43.
Bach 180 Series vs. 190 Series
The Bach 190S 50th Anniversary trumpets are built on the new 190 Stradivarius platform. At it’s core, the 190 platform simply refers to the horn’s valve casings.
- Bach 180 Series: Standard 1 Piece Valve Casings made from brass
- Bach 190 Series: 2 Piece Valve Casings with Nickel-Silver or Bronze Upper Balusters

Bach Screening Process
Bach trumpets are made by hand. Even with the improved manufacturing techniques that Bach returned to, this inevitably will create some variance. So with every Bach that comes in our shop, Dave Kessler personally inspects every single one. He checks for structural defects, cosmetic defects and assembly defects. The vibration of the instrument to ensure that the trumpet is a responsive horn. If a Bach is assembled poorly, this results in unnecessary stress in the solder joints that actually hinder vibration and in turn, negatively affects the performance of the trumpet. The most important test of the trumpet for Dave is the vibration test. If a horn doesn’t vibrate well itself (outside of even playing the horn), then it will not be a great playing trumpet.
If a Bach fails ANY of our tests is sent back to Bach, period.
