Bach “Apollo” 170 Series Pro Trumpet
Modern Take on a Vintage Model
The New Bach 170 Series Professional Trumpet is a modern take on an original model by Vincent Bach – the Bach “Apollo”. While the Stradivarius is well-known for its iconic one-piece hand-hammered trumpet bell, Bach’s original Apollo design featured a two-piece bell that was paired with the Stradivarius body. This was done largely to make a more affordable professional trumpet.
Like the original Apollo, the new Bach 170 Series trumpet features the same valve block and chassis as the current 180 Stradivarius line of trumpets but has been updated with a new bell and leadpipe. However, the new Apollo offers a truly unique design for a quick responding, focused horn that maintains a rich tonal core.
Additional Information
Bach 170: New 2 Piece, 2 Material Bell
Today’s Bach Apollo 170 is paired with a new two-piece, two-material bell that has been treated with the same top-secret annealing processes as the rest of the Stradivarius trumpet line. The bell is a #43 design for quick response and projection that uses a Gold Brass stem/throat that is paired with a Yellow Brass final flare. This helps give the trumpet a richer tone yet still provide quick response.
Bach 170: #6 Leadpipe
The new 6 leadpipe is designed to be the quickest responding leadpipe made by Bach today. Offered in either a standard or reverse slide setup, the #6 pipe is quick responding and free blowing while helping to maintain the traditional “Bach Sound”. On the 170 model, we recommend the Reverse pipe as it offers a quicker response which is most in line with the model’s design concept.
Kessler Screening Process on Bach Trumpets
Bach 170 trumpets are made by hand. Even with the improved manufacturing techniques that Bach returned to, this inevitably will create some variance. So with every Bach trumpet that comes in our shop, Dave Kessler personally inspects every single one. He checks for structural defects, cosmetic defects and assembly defects. The vibration of the instrument to ensure that the trumpet is a responsive horn. If a trumpet is assembled poorly, this results in unnecessary stress in the solder joints that actually hinder vibration and in turn, negatively impacts the trumpet’s performance. The most important test of the trumpet for Dave is the vibration test. If a horn doesn’t vibrate well itself (outside of even playing the horn), then it will not be a great playing trumpet.
If a Bach Trumpet fails ANY of our tests is sent back to Bach, period.
