Case Humidification for Clarinet & Oboe!

You’ve made the investment in the musical instrument of your dreams. Now comes the hard part – maintaining it! Wood instruments need to be properly maintained in order to help prevent cracking. One of the best things that you can do is to place a case humidifier inside of your instrument’s case in order to properly maintain it’s delicate wood!

There are several ways to humidify a case:

• Water Based Reservoir
  The Humistat 1 is our top recommendation for a water based reservoir system. It allows you to add humidity to your case so that your instrument is in a stable environment. Furthermore, you can adjust the amount of moisture it releases.
• 2 Way Hydration
  2 Way hydration systems are designed to not only release moisture when needed, but also absorb moisture when there is too much. The leader in this type of product is Boveda, offering packets designed to maintain a set level of humidity. We recommend the 49% models for clarinets and oboes.

Being based in the desert of Las Vegas, we take wood instrument maintenance very seriously and so should you! Even in more moderate climates, your instrument is exposed to variable humidity and would benefit from the stability of case humidification. So regardless of which style you go with, you should absolutely humidify your case so that your partner in music is protected!

Humidifying your clarinet or oboe is only one part of proper maintenance of your wood instrument. The other is oiling the wood. For that, you need an oil (we recommend Almond Oil) and some method of application (we use a feather).
