As there are many different opinions on how to maintain wood instruments, customers are often left confused with their instrument left in peril. As a result of our desert climate of Las Vegas, we have become experts on how to best care for these wonderful instruments and highly recommend the Boveda Humidification Packs as the easiest way to maintain your instrument.
Humidity can be both beneficial and detrimental to your instrument. Even more so, when the humidity level changes due to seasons (like winter), this can quickly lead to putting your instrument into a precarious state. The key is providing stability to your wood instrument throughout the year. The Boveda Humidification Starter Kits are the perfect tool to get you on the way to properly stabilizing your instrument’s case!
How do the Boveda Humdification packs work?
The Boveda Humidification system relies on a unique 2 way humidification pack. These packs are specially formulated to both release and absorb humidity in order to keep a stable relative humidity around them. Most wood instruments should be kept between 45% and 55% relative humidity. Boveda eliminates major fluctuations in temperature and relative humidity inside the instrument case. Boveda 49% RH stabilizes the environment to prevent damage that happens to wood from exposure to fluctuations. This way it allows standing moisture (left over condensation that was not removed from swabbing your instrument) to still dry quickly enough, but not so dry that the wood of your instrument releases its own moisture as quickly.
Boveda automatically adds and absorbs moisture slowly and precisely using only pure water and natural salts. By stabilizing the inside of your case at 49%, when you are done playing, the instrument is allowed to settle inside of a protected humidity range.

Two humidification levels to fit your needs
The Boveda Humidification Packs come in a large number of options. The primary 2 that we recommend and stock are the 49% RH and 72% RH models.
49% RH, 70 Gram
Ideal for use in all wood instruments as it will keep instruments in their ideal “safe zone” of humidification. The 49% Boveda Humidification Pack is the primary model we use. Each pack is individually wrapped in plastic so as to not “activate” until you open the plastic wrapper. This allows for the packs to be safely stored for at least 2 years. Once they are opened from the plastic, they get straight to work!
72% RH, 60 Gram
Why get a 72% pack when 49% is ideal for storage. The main reason would be to more quickly “season” your case. While the instrument needs the stability, the materials inside of your case will also absorb the moisture. So initially, this will mean that they will deplete the 49% packs more quickly than you may want. So if you have a NEW Case, before you transfer your instrument in to it, season it with a 72% model before placing the instrument in to it. Note – Boveda does NOT recommend using the 72% pack in the case WITH an instrument in it.
