Backun Model Q Cocobolo Wood Clarinet
2nd Generation Model
The Backun Model Q Clarinet offers those who prefer a more traditional French-style instrument the chance to experience the world of Backun. The Model Q combines modern manufacturing techniques and treatments, including a carbon fiber middle joint ring, with naturally unstained Cocobolo wood and brilliant keywork to produce an instrument with truly familiar feel and playability. Inline trill keys move the tone holes out of the waterline while the Backun proprietary manufacturing process ensures a precision bore and perfectly sculpted tone holes that produce impeccable intonation and response. Primarily only available in Grenadilla wood, we work direct with Backun to be able to provide the Model Q Cocobolo Wood Clarinet for our customers for that truly remarkable instrument!
Cocobolo Wood
The Model Q is typically only available in Grenadilla wood. However, the Cocobolo wood is more popular on the Custom models such as the Lumiere as it provides an easier response with an overall sweeter, broader tone. So we have worked directly with Backun to be able to provide the Model Q Cocobolo Wood Clarinet for our customers! All of the Model Q clarinets in Cocobolo will be standard with the left hand Eb lever as well (an option on the Grenadilla model).
Key Plating Options
As of 2024, the Model Q Cocobolo model will only be available with Silver Keys and Gold Plated Posts (as seen in our photos). All other options (all silver or all gold) are no longer going to be offered on this model. The only option will be if you want it with or without the Left Hand Eb Lever. We always recommend WITH the lever since it can removed from the clarinet easily enough, but it is a wonderful mechanism once you get used to using it!
2nd Generation Model
The Model Q offers players with a new standard and expectation when it comes to professional clarinets. Features that are more common on custom level instruments at a price point more in line with traditional pro models, the Model Q Cocobolo is once again raising the bar with the new 2nd Generation models released in 2021! With a completely redesigned acoustic bore based around the Custom Series Lumiere model, including Lumiere Bell and Lumiere Barrels, the Backun Q Series offers unparalleled performance value. The 2nd Gen Q also features upgraded black leather pads completing the new professional clarinet masterpiece!

Every Backun Model Q Clarinet we send out to a customer is not released from us unless it has been completely setup in our shop first. Sometimes, a clarinet (regardless of who the manufacturer or the price point is) comes in needing 20 minutes of adjustments and then the very next one can require 2 hours!
This is why we perform our setup (in our www.ClarinetRepairs.com ProShop) on your new Backun Model Q Cocobolo Clarinet before delivering it to you. You trust us with your purchase and we want to make sure that you are rewarded by giving you your new clarinet setup flawlessly!
