If you have ever seen Backun’s retail box for their clarinets, you will find a slogan displayed as you open the box that reads: “Reinventing the Clarinet, One Piece at a Time”. Now, this slogan has been applied to bass clarinet with the all new, Backun Bass Clarinets, starting with the Model Q Low C. Many don’t know that Morrie Backun was actually a bass clarinet player as his primary instrument play professional with the CBC Radio and Vancouver Opera Orchestras before he started Backun Musical Services. Now, he has expanded his expertise in to the bass clarinet to bring the industry a new standard of professional performance value.

Grenadilla or Cocobolo Wood
The Model Q Backun Bass clarinet is available in either Grenadilla or Cocobolo wood. Grenadilla is the more stable wood with Cocobolo being a bit more sensitive. Cocobolo provides an easier response with an overall sweeter, broader tone. Grenadilla will be more focused and traditional. Both are amazing performing instruments. Cocobolo will require diligent care and maintenance by the player, but will give easier response throughout and a sweet, broad tone that is truly unique, especially for a bass clarinet!
