Backun is a company that likes to challenge the industry norms. The Backun Alpha Synthetic Clarinet is a perfect example of this as it offered performance that truly surpassed its price and the fact that the Alpha was a synthetic body clarinet. Well now Backun is advancing this design in to the all WOOD Backun Alpha Plus clarinet. The new Alpha Plus takes this performance platform into an a marvelously well made wooden clarinet and keeps it in an affordable price point.

From beginner student to advancing artist, the Alpha Plus Wood Bb Clarinet delivers on Backun’s commitment to quality and exceptional value. Aged, unstained grenadilla wood and integrated wooden tone holes are paired with a unique barrel and bell design to produce a rich tone that is balanced with just enough resistance to encourage developing air support. However, this bore is well enough balanced to accept the more skilled musician and gives them a more free-blowing feel that is still rich and colorful.

Finally the instrument is setup with custom black leather pads for great durability and a softer tonal attack, an adjustable thumb rest with neck strap ring, and a backpack style case. A new Backun Protege student mouthpiece, Rovner traditional dark ligature and a Legere Signature Series reed (2.25 strength) are also included giving you a truly amazing value right out of the box!

Barrel Fit
Unlike the synthetic Alpha, the Alpha Plus is 100% compatible with Backun aftermarket barrels. The synthetic Alpha is technically compatible, but the Synthetic Alpha barrel has a slightly larger receiver that goes on to the top joint. This means that if you use any of the other Backun barrels on the Synthetic model, the barrel WILL still go on but it fits tighter and will compress your cork more. This means that the stock barrel on the Synthetic Alpha will become too loose. On the Backun Alpha Plus Wood Clarinet, this is not an issue at all!

Sometimes, a new clarinet (regardless of manufacturer or price) needs 20 minutes of adjustments and the next one needs 2 hours!
