Used Getzen 700 Series Trumpet
770SP Select Model
The Getzen 700 Series trumpet line offers players a great playing, step-up horn, made in the USA at a great value. While there have been several versions and models in the 700 Series lineup, they are all in that category of great step-up trumpets. is a perfect alternative for those seeking something more than a student trumpet, but don’t want to pay intermediate or professional trumpet prices. While not a high level instrument, it is much more than the typical step up horn.
700SP vs 770SP – What’s the Difference?
The 770SP Select model is a “custom model” of the 700SP model – which simply means that it was a model number offered for one specific retailer. However, the 700SP and 770SP are literally the same trumpet. So then why did Getzen offer that? That’s so these custom dealers don’t have to directly compete with other retailers – but would have to commit to order quantities to do it. In the end, the 700SP and 770SP are the SAME trumpet.
770SP (“Select” model) vs 700S (Eterna II)
Here, there are more differences. The Select models (700SP/770SP) use a free-er blowing design with less resistance, whereas the Eterna II uses a more resistant design. Neither is better or worse, just different. The Select Model will give an easier blow, but with a more open sound. The Eterna II will give a more focused core tone, but require more power from the player.
The Select models also use a Gold brass bell in lieu of the Eterna II’s standard Yellow brass bell. This is because the more free blowing design of the Select would be a bit brighter, so the Gold brass bell helps to add some tonal depth while maintaining the free-er blow resistance.
