1974 Selmer Paris Mark VI Alto Sax
Original Lacquer – ProShop Overhauled

The Selmer Mark VI Alto Sax is revered by many as the best saxophone ever made. While much of this is a personal opinion, one cannot argue that the Mark VI is surely among the all time best with virtually every major professional player throughout sax history performing on the Selmer Mark VI Alto Sax. Made continuously from 1954 through 1974 (with altos and tenors being made through 1976’ish & the baritone, soprano & sopranino made in to the early 1980’s), many players will group the earlier production among the best made and the highest performing of the Mark VI history.

Serial 225,740 – Original Lacquer, No High F#, Overhauled
This particular Selmer Mark VI Alto Sax is serial number 225,740 and has almost all of its original lacquer in tact. It is a model without a high F#, which we feel is a beneficial thing for a Selmer Mark VI Alto Sax as it allows the air column to stay uninterupted by a tonehole chimney a little longer inside the horn. We find that, regardless of vintage, that Selmer Mark VI Alto Sax models without the high uninterruptedre resonant, thicker tone. It’s a Medium Bow model.

The sax came to us in a basic gig bag, which we could not recommend to any customer. So we are including with this Selmer Mark VI Alto Sax a new BAM Softpack Case! These are the same cases that Selmer Paris sources from BAM for the new Reference 54 saxes.

ProShop Overhauled
This horn came to us in need of an overhaul… but being an Official Selmer Paris ProShop, we had to treat it better than a standard overhaul. Instead, this horn received our premier “ProShop Overhaul” service (a $1,200.00 job) so that we could offer someone an amazing Selmer Mark VI Alto Sax that blew away expectations! This overhaul brings the horn to the highest level of mechanical stability and performance. In this overhaul, we seek to maintain the purity of the Selmer Mark VI Alto Sax performance and combine it with the solidity and response of the finest manufactured saxophones of today.
