1968 Selmer Paris Mark VI Tenor Sax
Original Lacquer – ProShop Overhauled with Custom Kangaroo Pads

The Selmer Mark VI Tenor Sax is revered by many as the best saxophone ever made. While much of this is a personal opinion, one cannot argue that the Mark VI is surely among the all time best with virtually every major professional player throughout sax history performing on the Selmer Mark VI Tenor Sax. Made continuously from 1954 through 1974 (with altos and tenors being made through 1976’ish & the baritone, soprano & sopranino made in to the early 1980’s), many players will group the earlier production among the best made and the highest performing of the Mark VI history.

A True “Player’s Horn”!
There are a lot of different type of buyers for Mark VI Tenor Saxes. Some are looking for the collector’s horn, some are looking for a horn with a certain serial number and others are simply looking for a horn that wails! This horn is what we refer to as a “Player’s Horn”. This means that even though it isn’t an early production model that other buyers might be looking for, this horn IS a horn that if you put your mouthpiece on, you will be blown away.

There are a lot of reasons behind this (no severe damage in its past, plus the great overhaul we did), but suffice it to say that if you are looking for a great playing, reliable Mark VI Tenor Sax, then this is a horn you should really pay attention to! This horn wants to leap out of your hand with response while providing smooth key action AND reliability.

Serial 152855 – Original Lacquer, No High F#, Overhauled
This particular Mark VI Tenor Sax is serial number 152855. It is original lacquer. This horn has seen its neck bent down at some point in the past and was corrected before it arrived to us, but we confirmed angle during our overhaul. There had also been previous damage / dent work done near the top of the horn, in the octave mechanism posts, but we have repaired this as well. Finally, the low D# keyguard had a previously re-soldered guard foot but it was done well. There are plenty of acid bleed spots throughout but fundamentally it is solid and after the overhaul, it plays!

ProShop Overhauled
This horn came to us in need of an overhaul… but being an Official Selmer Paris ProShop, we had to treat it better than a standard overhaul. Instead, this horn received our premier “ProShop Overhaul” service (an $2,000 job) so that we could offer someone an amazing Mark VI Tenor Sax at a price that was as rockin’ as the horn itself! This overhaul brings the horn to the highest level of mechanical stability and performance. In this overhaul, we seek to maintain the purity of the Selmer Mark VI Tenor Sax performance and combine it with the solidity and response of the finest manufactured saxophones of today.
