Buffet Chadash Clarinet Barrel
The Buffet Chadash clarinet barrel uses an Inverse taper conical bore developed by Guy Chadash. Designed to improve intonation, tone focus and sharpness in throat tones for the modern Buffet professional clarinets. Silver-plated rings and an unstained African blackwood body.
The Chadash is our best seller as it combines the best of both worlds offering a bigger tone with decreased resistance but still maintaining good control and response for a large number of players. Compared to the Moennig, the Chadash is slightly less open allowing for easier control and response for most players. For the player who wants the least resistance and the biggest sound, the Moennig is often the better fit, but the Chadash is easily the more versatile maintaining a delicate balance between power & control.
Additional Information
The Buffet Chadash barrel is available in both a Bb & A specific barrel. However, many players will prefer to use the Bb barrel for both the Bb & A clarinets. Kessler & Sons Music only stocks the Buffet Chadash clarinet barrel in the Bb specific model, but will special order the A model for customers.
Available Sizes:
- 64mm
- 65mm
- 66mm
- 67mm
Buffet’s most popular clarinet barrels are the Chadash & Moennig designs, each one offers a bigger, richer tone on most modern Buffet clarinets ranging from the intermediate E11 through the Professional R13 Prestige & Tosca models. Both models offer decreased resistance and improved tonal projection compared to stock Buffet barrels. Everyone has their own opinion about which barrel is best, so here is the opinion from Dave Kessler:
Buffet Chadash Barrel
The Chadash is our best seller as it combines the best of both worlds offering a bigger tone with decreased resistance but still maintaining good control and response for a large number of players. Compared to the Moennig, the Chadash is slightly less open allowing for easier control and response for most players. For the player who wants the least resistance and the biggest sound, the Moennig is often the better fit, but the Chadash is easily the more versatile maintaining a delicate balance between power & control.
Buffet Moennig Barrel
The Moennig barrel is the larger bore of the two models offering the least resistance and the biggest sound. Like the Chadash, they give a significantly bigger sound than the stock barrel, but for some players, it is the more difficult to control especially at lower volume dynamic levels. If you simply want the biggest sound, the Moennig is the better for you. If you feel that most clarinets play overly stuffy because you tend to move a larger volume of air, the Moennig is for you!
Kessler & Sons Music offers a 3 day trial / return policy by default on any in stock Buffet Chadash Clarinet Barrel. There are no cleaning fees or restocking fees (assuming that the item is returned in proper condition).
Before we ship any new Buffet Chadash clarinet barrel, we actually inspect the barrel in the shop to ensure proper fit. We check that the tenon fits of the barrel are reamed to proper specification. This ensures that the barrel should fit your clarinet. The barrel might be a hair loose compared to your barrel since your cork has likely compressed over time to your barrel. However, you can generally still test the barrel without much issue. If you do have any issues with fit, you can use a Teflon tape (also called Plumber’s tape) to wrap your cork to help provide a more snug fit of the barrel while not impacting the fit of your stock barrel. This Teflon tape can usually be purchased at your local hardware store for a very low cost.
