Yamaha saxes are among the most trusted saxes in the industry. The Yamaha YAS-280 alto sax used to only be available overseas, but as of 2026 has come in to the North American market. Based around the standard YAS-26 platform, the Yamaha 280 alto sax has a few distinct changes that will catch the eyes of many players.

Barely Used!
Offered here is a sax that was used as a short term rental but is otherwise in impeccable condition. You would be hard pressed to find a mark anywhere on it. Its truly impeccable.

New Mouthpiece
We are including a NEW Yamaha 4C mouthpiece with the sax rather than a used one. That way you know you are getting a fresh, clean mouthpiece! The horn has also gone through our shop and fully serviced. This instrument will meet the same performance expectations as a new clarinet.

Yamaha Student Alto Sax Comparison: 26 vs 280 
Fundamentally, the YAS-26 and the YAS-280 are virtually the same horn. Both are based on the bore shape of the Yamaha 62 series, utilizes the same lighter weight design and construction for quick, immediate response, and are built side by side in the same factory. So what is the deal with the Yamaha 280? The biggest is the presence of the High F# key that is not available on the YAS-26.

Exact listing of differences are as follows for the Yamaha 280 Alto Sax:

• 280 has High F# Key
• 280 uses richer “Gold Lacquer” (vs. “Clear Lacquer” on 26)
• 280 uses brass, gold lacquered keywork (vs nickel-plated on 26)
• 280 uses a pearl front F key (vs sculpted key on 26)
• 280 uses brass, gold lacquered “J style” bell key brace (vs nickel-plated on 26)
• 280 uses intermediate series backpack style case (vs plain case on 26)

 

So overall, the Yamaha YAS-280 is a 26 with a high F# key and a more “intermediate look” to it’s package.

This lightly used Yamaha 280 alto sax has been completely gone through in our Professional Shop to guarantee that it is in perfect setup and regulation. We also include a 1 year warranty covering pads & adjustments through our shop just like we would with a new Yamaha sax!
