The Buffet C Clarinet is the most renowned clarinet in the key of C ever made. These instruments have a small niche market but when you do need them, having one that plays with a deep rich tone and with reliable response is of the utmost importance. However, due to the small market, the production costs of modern C clarinets has become unobtainable for many players leading them to the used market.

This particular Vintage Buffet C Clarinet, serial number 4134, was made in 1929, and has never been cracked in the main body. The original bell has been cracked (& glued by a previous tech). The original barrel was replaced with a modern Buffet Prestige 47.5mm barrel at some point in it’s life (original barrel is no longer with the instrument). The clarinet is a “6 ring” model with the forked Eb/Bb keywork. We performed our “ClarinetRepairs.com ProShop Overhaul” to this clarinet (which is a $450+ job) and includes a 1 year warranty. This overhaul is known for improving a clarinet’s response, performance, tonal projection and reliability.

This clarinet has received our ClarinetRepairs.com ProShop Overhaul. Full details of that overhaul can be found by clicking here. The big benefit of this job is that it revitalizes the instrument. In this job, we make sure that every tonehole is precisely level and the extruding profile is properly cut. This gives more reliable pad seal and the profile provides for proper air venting increasing tonal presence while decreasing stuffy tones. As a result, this vintage Buffet gives an amazing performance and response that is not matched in modern clarinets.

The pads used in this clarinet were our preferred “MasteRoo” configuration. This combination of the Masters Series synthetic on the upper joint and Kangaroo Leather on the lower joint optimizes the precision and projection required in the upper end of the clarinet and the lusher sweet tones in the lower end.
