Vandoren V16 Metal Soprano Sax Mouthpiece
The Vandoren V16 Metal Soprano Sax Mouthpiece is a mouthpiece we have been asking for Vandoren to make for years. The V16 line is based around that classic 1950’s jazz sound and response. The hard rubber mouthpieces in the line are some of our best sellers, so when Vandoren showed is the design idea of the metal model back in January 2025, we instantly put in a pre order. Finally, the Vandoren V16 Metal Soprano mouthpiece has launched and it is everything we hoped it would be! This is not simply a metal version of the hard rubber model – this is a unique design with a more open chamber, higher baffle and a bigger tip opening. It is designed to truly maximize the richer, fuller response of metal while keeping with that “V16 sound” concept.
Ligature Options
The Vandoren V16 Metal Soprano mouthpiece follows the pattern set by the tenor sax metal V16 models in that they have a unique external shape. While this was likely done for mass/weight/response reasons, this does have a drawback of ligature fit. So as a result, Vandoren has released a uniquely fit version of their popular Optimum ligature to fit the metal V16 soprano sax mouthpiece. While you can order the mouthpiece on its own, if this is your first time playing one of these, we highly recommend getting the Optimum ligature with it so that you have a proper fit ligature that still offers exceptional response, tone and projection.

Available Tips
At launch, the Vandoren V16 metal soprano sax mouthpiece is only available in one size, the “S7”. This S7 however is bigger in tip opening from the rubber model, but should still “feel” close due to the higher baffle of the metal model. We would expect that Vandoren offers other sizes in the future, but at launch, on the S7 is available:
- S7– .074″ Tip Opening (compared to .068″ on the rubber S7). Medium Long facing.
Trial & Return Policy
Kessler & Sons Music offers a 3 day trial / return policy by default on in stock instruments and mouthpieces. There are no cleaning fees or restocking fees (assuming that the item is returned in proper condition).
When we ship the mouthpiece, we install a blue protective film over the logo to help protect the logo from irreparable scratches while it is being tested. We also install a tooth patch before shipping. This way you can test the mouthpiece with less fear of damage. However, you can still damage the mouthpiece even with these protections, so make sure to handle it carefully while you are testing it. We recommend leaving these items on the mouthpiece during the testing phase and only to remove them after you have made the decision to keep the mouthpiece. Mouthpieces that are returned with irreparable scratches/marks might not be accepted for return.
Please read our terms & conditions (link at the bottom of the page) for full details on this policy.
