Used diMedici Alto Flute – 1200 Series with 2 Headjoints
Solid Silver Headjoints & Split E Mechanism
The Jupiter diMedici 1200 Series Alto Flute was one of our favorite alto flutes of all time! Providing exceptional performance at a manageable cost, the diMedici line was one of our best sellers in both C Flutes and Alto Flutes. Unfortunately, Jupiter made the decision to discontinue the entire diMedici line in favor of the Azumi by Altus line (also a Jupiter product). Even though the Azumi did not include an alto flute, the entire diMedici flute line was discontinued and the industry lost an amazing alto! This particular alto flute was one of the last diMedici alto flutes that we sold new. Originally setup as a 1217SE model (straight headjoint only), the customer also bought a curved headjoint at that time to make it the 1221SE configuration that had both headjoints (the 1219SE was the curved only configuration).
1200 Series – Silver Headjoints
The 1200 Series diMedici Alto Flute features hand-cut Solid Silver headjoints and a Split E mechanism. The body is a pointed key arm design.
About this diMedici Alto Flute #C0356
This flute was a 1 owner flute. Originally purchased brand new from our shop in late 2002, this flute has seen very little use. When it was purchased new, the flute was configured with only the straight headjoint as a model 1217SE. However at the time, we ordered a curved headjoint as well for the customer so it is effectively a 1221SE configuration. This means that you have both headjoints (the curved headjoint was the official diMedici solid silver headjoint so it matches the flute). The flute had very little use and was just fully re-setup in our ProShop to make sure that it is in excellent performance condition!
Additional Information
Straight vs. Curved Headjoints
The diMedici Alto Flute originally was able to be purchased with either a Straight, Curved or both Headjoints. This particular flute has BOTH the curved and straight headjoints. In the end, there is not a definitive “better” option in this regards, but rather a personal preference. Both have their pros and cons.
Straight Headjoint
- More open in sound
- Less resistant
- Requires a full reach from the player
Curved Headjoint
- More resistant
- Can be helpful for smaller players as it brings the body of the flute closer to the player
- Players will “hear more” of the flute since the toneholes will be closer to the player – this can make the player perceive the flute to be brighter in tone
Professional Setup
This diMedici Alto Flute was originally purchased brand new in our shop and was professionally setup. It has had routine maintenance performed throughout the years in our ProShop and just had a complete re-setup on it before being made available for sale (about $150 worth of work).
