Selmer Paris Supreme Alto Sax
After 100 years as the leading saxophone maker, Selmer Paris releases their aptly named Supreme alto sax. The Selmer Paris Supreme alto sax embodies the culmination of centuries of expertise, combined with a perfectly mastered manufacturing process that lives up to the ambitions of the Selmer Paris name. The Supreme is not a re-hash of another model or a slight modification on existing design… instead this is a complete redesign that has been an ongoing process for the past 8 years. The Selmer Supreme represents a purely new Selmer that is designed to be the best ever!
The Selmer Supreme is not defined by a single musical genre of sound. Instead, it combines the performance characteristics that players come to want from the Selmer name in to one ultimate instrument. With a balanced tone, impeccable response, improved intonation and ergonomics, the Supreme Alto Sax will impress any level of performer.
Additional Information
We recently did a video review with comparisons of the Supreme to the Series II and Reference 54. One of our sax teachers, Charles McNeal, came in and gave all 3 horns a play through for your listening enjoyment. The first video is longer in the 20 minute range, but the second video is a “quick comparison” video that is only about 2 minutes long. Both do a good job of showing the difference in the sound of the horn.
New Acoustic Bore for Supreme Intonation
The Supreme features a new neck & bell bore. The body, while a familiar bore, has new tonehole sizing and heights. This new bore is the most in tune Selmer that has ever existed… this is not an exaggeration. The intonation on the Supreme is just that, supreme!
Redesigned C# Correction Mechanism
Introduced on the Serie III alto, the C# correction concept is once again employed on the Selmer Paris Supreme Alto Sax. However, instead of the 1 tone hole on the back of the mechanism, this has been redesigned to be in line with the rest of the tone holes on the body tube for a more natural sound perception for the musician. This is also a much simpler mechanism than the Serie III counterpart making it easier to adjust for your technician.
New Tenon Design
The Supreme uses a unique 3 concentric point tenon. This allows for a more even seal & application of pressure to the neck to improve the response of the horn. The clamping ring can also be rotated in to different positions and is made from heavier nickel-silver to add more mass to the mechanism, similar in concept to the various heavy mass screws that players find improve response in the altissimo range of the sax.
Redesigned Front F
The front F key has been redesigned for a smoother feel in the left hand. The new lever is designed to articulate from the same side as the rest of the left hand stack giving a more natural feel.
Professional Setup
Every horn we send out to a customer is not released from us unless it has been completely setup in our shop first. This is because the setup on the horn is of the utmost importance! Sometimes, a saxophone (regardless of who the manufacturer or the price point is) comes in needing 20 minutes of adjustments and then the very next one can require 2 hours! So if you were to get 5 of the same model right out of the box, they will all play different which leads people to believe that they are “good” or “bad” saxes… but the reality is that the one that was the best out of the 5 was likely the one that needed the least amount of work and on the flip side, the “bad” sax was the one that needed 2 hours worth of adjustments!
Once the same 5 saxophones are properly regulated and adjusted to perfection, they become near identical saxophones that even the pickiest of players would be challenged to pick a true “favorite” horn. However, since most stores do not or even can not perform this setup, the player never knows this and is simply relying on the luck of the draw. This is why we perform our setup (in our www.SaxophoneRepairs.com ProShop) on them before delivering your new sax to you. You trust us with your purchase and we want to make sure that you are rewarded by giving you your ideal saxophone setup flawlessly!
