Evolution of the Traditional Selmer Sound
The natural evolution of the traditional Selmer sound has arrived with the Selmer Signature Alto Sax! In 2021, after 100 years as the leading saxophone maker, Selmer Paris re-defined the professional saxophone with the Selmer Supreme. The Supreme brought the Selmer sound in to a new generation of players offering a more balanced and open sound while maintaining the Selmer essence. The Supreme also brought in better intonation and even playability previously believed to only be found in Japanese horns. The Supreme was well received by most players but some still preferred the darker, more focused tonality and playing feel of the more “traditional” Selmer horns like the Series II. So in 2023, Selmer Paris is bringing a merger of the two concepts together in the Selmer Paris Signature Series Saxophones! The modern evolution of the Super Action 80 Series horns is found in the new Signature Alto Sax. Available in multiple finishes, one of the more stunning is the Signature Alto Sax in Brushed Lacquer!
Evolution of the Series II
The Signature alto embodies the renewal of the Super Action 80 Series II model, which has marked the history of the saxophone since its launch in 1986. While retaining the sound characteristics of the Series II, it offers improved intonation, especially in the upper register, and favors emission in the lower register. Its ergonomics, also inspired by the Series II are updated to respond to the needs of all musicians. The Signature also benefits from the latest innovations, updated from the Supreme: a new 3-point neck receiver system for better sound homogeneity, a nickel-silver tightening ring for greater density in this sensitive zone, an octave key with teflon supports for more mechanical fluidity, etc.
Embellished with original engraving in the Art Deco style, paying homage to the age-old techniques handed down through generations of artisans at the SELMER factory in Mantes-la-Ville since 1919, the Signature alto is both a traditional saxophone and a beacon of modernity.
Signature Alto Sax – Brushed Lacquer Finish
The Selmer Paris Signature Alto Sax in Brushed Lacquer is one of our absolute favorite finishes! The body is uniformly scratch brushed but the keywork is left polished. Both surfaces then have the dark lacquer applied to them for a stunning, yet subtle elegance. Sometimes referred to as the “Matte Lacquer”, the Signature Alto Sax in Brushed Lacquer is absolutely a beautiful look that holds up exceptionally well. The brushed body tends to help hide the lighter scratches that horns inevitably receive throughout their life. It also give the emotional feel of a “two tone” finish but without standing out screaming “look at me”!

Professional Setup
Every horn we send out to a customer is not released from us unless it has been completely setup in our shop first. This is because the setup on the horn is of the utmost importance! Sometimes, a saxophone (regardless of who the manufacturer or the price point is) comes in needing 20 minutes of adjustments and then the very next one can require 2 hours! So if you were to get 5 of the same model right out of the box, they will all play different which leads people to believe that they are “good” or “bad” saxes… but the reality is that the one that was the best out of the 5 was likely the one that needed the least amount of work and on the flip side, the “bad” sax was the one that needed 2 hours worth of adjustments!
Once the same 5 saxophones are properly regulated and adjusted to perfection, they become near identical saxophones that even the pickiest of players would be challenged to pick a true “favorite” horn. However, since most stores do not or even can not perform this setup, the player never knows this and is simply relying on the luck of the draw. This is why we perform our setup (in our www.SaxophoneRepairs.com ProShop) on them before delivering your new sax to you. You trust us with your purchase and we want to make sure that you are rewarded by giving you your ideal saxophone setup flawlessly!
