The new 2nd Generation Selmer Paris Presence clarinet is a wonderful, expressive clarinet. Possessing a rich tonal core, balanced response between registers and stable intonation, it offers clarinetists a true professional level instrument at a more accessible price point. The 2nd Generation Presence also is built with stability in mind, as they are all equipped with the “Evolution★ System” bore resin in the upper half of the top joint, preventing the risk of cracking in that sensitive area of the clarinet.

Plainly put, the new Selmer Presence clarinet is one of the most impressive values on the clarinet market today.

Evolution★ System Bore
One of the biggest fears for clarinet players is getting a crack in the instrument. Cracks can often be prevented with diligent care and maintenance, but sometimes they just happen regardless. While cracks can be repaired, it requires a true expert caliber technician to do it well, without permanently changing the performance of the instrument. So Selmer has integrated their “Evolution★” bore system to the 2nd Generation Presence clarinet’s upper joint – which is where the majority of cracks occur. In this system, before the toneholes and bore are cut, Selmer injects a special resin into the upper half of the clarinet’s top joint, right about to the point just past the thumb tube. The joint is then manufactured and toneholes cut. This allows this system to be seamless as it is not an “insert” but truly part of the bore.

This is because the setup on the Presence clarinet is of the utmost importance! Sometimes, a clarinet (regardless of who the manufacturer or the price point is) comes in needing 20 minutes of adjustments and then the very next one can require 2 hours!

Presence Generation 2 Improvements
There are a lot of improvements in the 2nd Gen Presence Clarinet that make it a truly remarkable upgrade. They include:

Delivered with two barrels (64.5 mm and 65.5 mm) to adapt to various playing contexts, an Echo mouthpiece, and a refined case, the Présence strikes the perfect balance between tradition and innovation, ready to excel in any musical setting.

New Case with Mouthpiece Pouch
The Presence is using a custom made version of a ProTec “MicroZip” case. The Selmer version has a unique interior to accommodate the 2 barrels and a unique blue leatherette exterior. They are also including a clip-on mouthpiece pouch to match the exterior. They do this so that you have the option of keeping the mouthpiece outside of the case. Why? This is to help prevent tarnishing to the silver keywork on the clarinet. Since mouthpieces are made from hard rubber / ebonite, these materials contain sulfur in them, that when left inside your clarinet case, can cause tarnishing to the silver. So even though there is a mouthpiece cutout inside the case, they recommend that you keep your mouthpiece outside of the case and thus provide the pouch for you to do this.

Our only complaint on the new case is that it lacks a traditional handle! Instead, the included shoulder strap for the case is the recommended way to carry your clarinet in the case.
