Lightly Used Yamaha Custom Kingwood Oboe
841 Series Kingwood with Duet+ Liner
Yamaha oboes achieve a clear sound quality and superb intonation by dramatically improving the precision and stability of the bore. With the Yamaha Custom 841 Series, the player is introduced to a marvelous performing instrument with exceptional pitch and control. This oboe is made from the beautiful “Kingwood” for a sweeter, broader tone that is only matched by it’s aesthetic beauty. The Yamaha 841LKT Kingwood Oboe is made with the “Duet+” bore system to help protect the wood from cracking.
About this Used Yamaha Kingwood Oboe
This instrument was purchased new in 2018. It has been a one owner oboe. The original owner took great care of the oboe and it is in excellent condition. The original owner is no longer playing and so we are selling this instrument for their family.
Duet+ Bore Liner
The Yamaha Kingwood Oboe with the Duet+ bore utilizes the same bore and key design of the rest of the Custom 841 Series Oboes. This design then has the upper joint bore slightly over-cut so that an ebonite insert can be applied to the interior of the upper 80%+ of the upper joint. This allows for the wood to be protected from the constant humidity of playing the oboe, helping to prevent cracking.
Also to cope with various durability issues inherent in wooden wind instruments, Duet+ models employ innovative techniques to form a protective layer next to the air column. The combination of precious wood and state-of -the-art resin is not simply a “Duet” of tradition and technology – it’s a “Plus” advantage indeed!
Sealed Tone Holes
Yamaha Custom series oboes with the Duet+ option also feature synthetic tone hole inserts throughout the entire oboe helping to further protect the wood and the instrument’s acoustic integrity. Even in the event of a crack, the tonehole surface and bore is protected from the crack, allowing for a more reliable performance after the crack is repaired.

Professional Setup
Every instrument we send out to a customer is not released from us unless it has been completely setup in our shop first. This is because the setup on a musical instrument is of the utmost importance! Sometimes, an oboe (regardless of who the manufacturer) comes in needing 20 minutes of adjustments and then the very next one can require 2 hours! So if you were to get 5 of the same model right out of the box, they will all play different. This leads players to believe that they are “good” or “bad” oboes. The reality is that the one that was the best out of the 5 was likely the one that needed the least amount of work and the “bad” oboe was the one that needed 2 hours worth of adjustments!
Once the same 5 oboes are properly regulated and adjusted to perfection, they become near identical instruments. Even the pickiest of players would be challenged to pick a true “favorite”. However, since most stores do not or even can not perform this setup, the player never knows this and is simply relying on the luck of the draw. This is why we perform our setup in our ProShop on them before delivering your new oboe to you. You trust us with your purchase and we want to make sure that you are rewarded by giving you your ideal instrument setup flawlessly!
