The Howarth S40C English Horn uses fully vented keywork and includes almost all of the additional mechanism of a “Full Conservatory” instrument.

Optional Bore Liner
Howarth makes their S40C English Horn from a wonderfully seasoned Grenadilla wood. With all wood instruments, there is an inherent risk of cracking. We know how to store and maintain wood instruments being based in the desert of Las Vegas! When we receive these marvelous instruments from Howarth, we prepare them for stability. First, we oil the instrument’s bore. Then, we place a case humidifier in each instrument that is checked on a weekly basis while in our store. We do this to ensure that the oboe does not suffer from our dry climate before shipping to a customer.

With any wood instrument though, there is always the risk of cracking. To combat this risk, Howarth offers an optional bore liner for the S40C English Horn in the upper section of the upper joint. We have found this liner to be exceptionally effective and have yet to see an instrument crack with this liner installed. The bore liner costs us a little over $100 more, but we offer it at ZERO COST to our customers because we believe it to be the superior option offering identical tonal performance to the all wood instrument and better wood security on your investment!
