1936 Vintage C.G. Conn 10M “Naked Lady” Tenor Sax
Completely Overhauled with Black Kangaroo Pads
The Conn 10M, commonly referred to as a “Naked Lady” model due to the engraving on the bell, is arguably one of the best performing vintage tenor saxophones ever made. To many, it represents the pinnacle of American saxophone production. These horns posses unique combination of quick response with a massive body of sound and tonal presence that is hard to duplicate in modern instruments. However, due to their age, many of these horns are in a state of disrepair that prevents the player from truly appreciating the true performance of the Conn 10M.
We don’t come across good Conn 10M tenors often enough, but when we do, we will list them on this page. Currently, we have the following Conn 10M tenor sax on hand:
Conn 10M “Naked Lady” Tenor Sax #271756 – made in 1936
This particular Conn 10M came to us in rough shape, a terrible case and in need of an overhaul. She hadn’t been played in decades and when she was played, she was played a LOT. So we performed some major surgery to this old gal and have her now in top notch performance again thanks to our ProShop Overhaul. We also put her in a new ProTec XL Series case. The lacquer on this horn is original… though there are areas where much of it is gone.
Conn wasn’t stamping “10M” on them at this point in production as officially, Conn referred to them simply as the “Artist Series” models that were released in 1935. Just prior to this official transition, Conn made models that are today referred to as “Transitional” models (an unofficial name) that were known to be a hybrid between the true predecessing model, the New Wonder and the successor model, the Artist Series. However, these Transitional models had split bell keys (one on each side) which clearly this horn does not have. Conn later started stamping 10M on the horns, but prior to that, the 10M was simply the official part number for the Artist Series tenors.

Additional Information
Overhaul
We have completely overhauled this fabulous old girl and brought her back to top level playing condition. We used black Kangaroo leather pads with a black nylon resonators. This combination is solid & fast under the fingers while giving balance, sweet performance throughout the whole range of the sax. We will also include a 1 year warranty through our ProShop.
We usually offer 2 overhaul jobs: Standard Overhaul & ProShop Overhaul. On this horn, since it uses rolled tone holes and due to the fact that the tone holes were in really good condition, we opted to do kind of a “hybrid overhaul”… meaning that we did more of the Standard Overhaul but went with the higher end materials (pads & other supplies). This job would have been around $900-$1,000 if we had done this for a customer on this sax.

In the end, the only way to know whether or not this is the right horn for you is to play it. This is why Kessler & Sons Music offers a 3 day trial / return policy on instruments. This gives you the chance to test out of the horn (you have to order it and pay for it first of course) in your own environment and with your mouthpiece setup to make sure you love it. If for some reason you are not 100% happy with the horn, you can then send it back for a full refund (less shipping fees)!
Of course, there are certain terms & conditions that apply to this, but you can find all the details of that by reading our terms & conditions (Click Here).
