1959 Selmer Paris Mark VI Tenor Sax
Original Lacquer, Pads & Case

This Selmer Paris Mark VI Tenor Sax is a truly epic horn… serial 80,847 in original condition, original lacquer, original case… all in excellent condition. The horn has sat in its case for decades which has lead to the “speckled” lacquer aging depending on where it is contacted in the case. The horn has NEVER been damaged, overhauled, and barely played!

Original Neck & Case
The original, matched serial number neck is present and has never had damage to it. It is beautiful. The original Chesterfield case is in excellent condition. No mouthpiece.

Original Pads & Resonators!
The original pads from this 1959 Mark VI Tenor Sax are still in place (with original resonators) with the exception of the palm E & F pads. However, these were not screw-back resonators on these pads, BUT we do have 2 old palm key key pads with the correct vintage resonator that we will include with, so that they can attempt to be transferred and keep the resonator set original. The sax IS completely playable right now however, even with the old pads in place.

Horn is being sold in an “As-Is” condition.

If a player wants to bring this horn into peak performance condition, we can offer our “Official Selmer Paris ProShop Overhaul” service to the winning bidder after the sale is complete, before shipment. This can be done before we ship them horn (2 week shipping delay for overhaul) at a cost of $2,000. More on the overhaul option below – but note that if a customer opts for the overhaul, that would cancel our normal return policy since it is a permanent option to the horn and can no longer be sold “as-is” like it is currently listed.

Known Blemishes
The horn is in as good of shape as you will find. Still, it is a 66 year old sax so it has a few small flaws. There are a few scratches but the ones that are more than than are as follows:

There are a few small dings in the bow, by the D# keyguard. -photo-
There is a small ding in the bell lip at the 8 o’clock position. -photo-
There is a little acid bleed on the rib for the left hand stack. -photo-
There is various freckling to the lacquer in several spots, but all within normal.

ProShop Overhaul Option
This horn plays great as it is right now, but as the pads are 66 years old, it cannot be expected to stay playing great if you plan on playing it. As an Official Selmer Paris ProShop, we KNOW how to make this horn play to the fullest of its capability, but that job isn’t cheap. It can be added on for a cost of $2,000 and given priority in our shop (front of the line, 2 week completion time frame).

Overhaul Details
Our ProShop Overhaul does miracles for Mark VI Tenor Saxes. This is more than just “putting in pads”… this is correcting flaws inherent in manufacturing at that time. This overhaul includes:

Full Tear Down with Ultrasonic Cleaning of all parts
Full Mechanical Rebuild
– Rods are fit to be tight to key posts
– Hinge Tubes are tightened to their rods

Diamond Tonehole Filing
– With rotational tonehole files, we can get toneholes far more level meaning that little leaks on pads are less prone to happen

Premium Pad Selection
– By default, we would us Pisoni Pro pads, but other options are available.
– We would transfer the original resonators to the Pisoni Pro pads.

Premium Materials for Adjustments
– We use gumikork and other premium materials for adjustments so that they are solid and reliable

With this amazing Selmer Mark VI Tenor Sax, we know how to pack it safely so that it arrives to you without issue. Once you receive it, you then have 3 days to evaluate the saxophone. To be blunt, if you get this horn, you are not going to send it back. However, if you are not 100% satisfied with it, you simply let us know within the 3 days and then send it back for a full refund under the terms of our policy (click here for the full policy). You are responsible for the horn. If you opt for an overhaul before shipment, note that this will cancel this policy.

Additional Auction Terms

Anti-Sniping Policy

Our auctions are setup to prevent the process known as "Sniping". Any bid that comes in at the very end of the auction (usually within 1 minute of ending time, but that can change depending on the auction settings), attempting to "snipe" the item at the lowest price possible, will automatically extend the auction ending time by 5 minutes. This gives users the chance to decide if they still want to compete for the winning bid.

Proxy Bidding Allowed

Our auctions do allow for proxy bidding. This means that once an item has reached its minimum qualifying bid (opening bid and/or reserve price, depending on auction item), we then allow for users to place "proxy bids". With a proxy bid, you can then put in your highest, best possible price, and your bid will be automatically entered at the lowest minimum amount necessary to make you the high bidder. Another user must then out-bid you by more than your proxy bid before they become the high bidder.

So for example, if the reserve / minimum successful high bid is $2,000 with $50 bid increments but you are willing to bid up to $3,000, you can place your bid at $3,000 but it will show the "current bid" at only $2,000. Then if another user comes in and bids $2,100, you will be automatically increased to $2,150, and so on, until another user outbids your proxy bid.

Does the standard Trial / Return Policy Apply?

Yes and/or no - depending on the auction. Unless specifically stated, our normal return policy will apply. However, certain auctions might not qualify, which will be clearly stated. Additionally, some auctions could include options to upgrade services/features on an auction item that in their own, could result in a cancellation of the policy. Example of an option that could cancel the policy: A vintage instrument listed in "as-is" condition might likely qualify for the return policy. However, an option to overhaul/rebuild the instrument after winning the auction might cancel that policy as it no longer allows for the item to be re-listed in the same "as-is" condition.

Auctions Require Full Payment in 24 Hours

All successful auctions require full payment (or approved financing application) within 24 hours of completed auction. If not paid in time, the auction may be relisted.

You Must Be Signed In to Bid

Just like with any auction site, you must create and be signed in to an account on our website in order to bid. Bids will not be accepted from Guest Users.

Payment Options

All standard payment options can be used for auction products. This includes credit card, PayPal, bank wire transfer and various financing options. Note that our standard policies on payment still apply, specifically that we will only ship and deliver to a verified billing address for the payment method used.

Can I Purchase Other Items for Testing Against Auction Items?

No. Auction items cannot be combined with other standard products for the purpose of sending out to test side by side and compare.
