1952 Selmer SBA Tenor Sax
Original Lacquer – ProShop Overhauled
The Selmer SBA Tenor Sax (Super Balanced Action) is revered by many as one of the best tenor saxophones ever made. While much of this is a personal opinion, one cannot argue that the Selmer SBA Tenor is surely among the all time best with virtually every major professional tenor sax player throughout sax history performing on the Selmer SBA Tenor Sax. Made from 1946 through 1954, the Selmer SBA Tenor marked the first appearance from Selmer of the “modern” saxophone. The Selmer SBA Tenor offered the revolutionary off-set tonehole system – which is used by every manufacturer today – allowing for a more natural ergonomic hand position than had ever been achieved with the traditional “in-line” tonehole designs employed by every other maker.
Serial 49,084 – Matched Neck
This particular Selmer SBA Tenor is serial number 49,084 and is all original lacquer. The neck is the original, matched serial number neck and has never been damaged. The horn itself came to us in overall stellar condition still with the original pads (and resos) in place. This horn had only minimal scratching with a few spots on the back of the bell (photographed here). There appears to have had one of the D# key guard flanges re-soldered at some point (photographed here) but otherwise, the horn is in phenomenal condition.
ProShop Overhauled
This Selmer SBA Tenor has been ProShop Overhauled in our Official Selmer Paris ProShop. More details of the overhaul are listed below, but we did transfer the original metal resonators to the new pads in the overhaul.
