Meyer & Otto Link Sax Mouthpieces

2026 marks a landmark event in the saxophone industry. This is due to the new partnership with JJ Babbitt – the makers of Otto Link and Meyer saxophone mouthpieces – and Theo Wanne. Meyer and Otto Link have through history helped define the sound of jazz saxophone. Theo Wanne on the other hand has reshaped the industry standards for quality and refinement without excuses. So when the owners of JJ Babbitt sought to improve their historic brands’ reputations and quality, they knew that there was only one person to turn to: Theo Wanne. The partnership that started will redefine the market for sax mouthpieces for all levels of player.

Get to know the new Meyer and Otto Link mouthpieces – perfected by Theo Wanne. More models will be added as the partnership grows so keep coming back to find out more!

Below is a listing of only the models being done under the new partnership with Theo Wanne. Other models, such as the Meyer Bros Connoisseur series will continue in the handmade tradition of old for the immediate future. Models that are not listed below are not part of this new project – yet.

When will these be available?
They have started shipping but supply is no where near meeting the demand at this time. While we have literally every model / size on order, many of them are yet to have shipped at all and others we have had large batches come through. So there is unfortunately no way for anyone to give an absolute delivery time frame on “when” for literally any of the models. So the best answer we can give is: “soon”. We recommend subscribing for updates on the specific model/size you want. That way, when we know a batch is coming in, we can let you know.

Manufacturing Partnership
The manufacturing and finishing of the new models varies depending on the material. All of the changes done were to improve consistency and overall performance without sacrificing core designs and proprietary material choices.

Hard Rubber Models

Step One – Molded at Babbitt
These new hard rubber start their production at Babbitt using their traditional molding technique, original molds and their proprietary hard rubber formulation. This effectively creates a “mouthpiece blank” that is then sent to Theo Wanne.

Step Two – Perfected by Theo Wanne
At Theo’s facility in Washington, the rubber blanks are finished on Theo’s high end CNC machines where all of the fine details of the mouthpiece will be carved to perfection. This includes:

  • Tip opening
  • Side rails
  • Baffle
  • Reed window
  • Table

Step Three – Finishing at Babbitt
These machine finished blanks then go back to Babbitt where the final buffing and finishing is completed. The Babbitt team working on these mouthpieces has been trained by Theo and his team for a new exacting standard of finishing. This retains the traditional look combined with the perfection of the new manufacturing process.

This combination will give players the sound they want with the reliability and consistency that can only be produced by Theo Wanne! This consistency will allow players to no longer have to test through large selections of mouthpieces to find “the right one” – instead they will ALL be that great mouthpiece right out of the box!

Metal Models

Step One – Machined at Wanne
The metal models all start off as one piece bar stock brass – the same “Bell Metal Brass” that has always been used on Links. Historically, metal Links were made with 2 piece molded halves that were then brazed together. This lead to inconsistencies in the blank that could not be prevented. So by moving to a fully machined mouthpiece out of solid bar stock, these imperfections are eliminated. The mouthpiece is fully machined at Theo’s facility which includes machining the following elements:

  • Tip opening
  • Side rails
  • Baffle
  • Reed window
  • Chamber
  • Table

Step Two – Finishing at Babbitt
These machine mouthpieces then go back to Babbitt where the final buffing and finishing (cleanup of machining elements as well as transitionary areas such as the table floor) is completed. The Babbitt team working on these mouthpieces has been trained by Theo and his team for a new exacting standard of finishing.

All plating is then done by Babbitt. With the gold plated Otto Link models, the mouthpiece first is Rhodium plated before it is Gold Plated. This retains the traditional look combined with the perfection of the new manufacturing process.

Trial & Return
Kessler & Sons Music offers a 3 day trial / return policy by default on all in stock mouthpieces. There are no cleaning fees or restocking fees (assuming that the item is returned in proper condition).

When we ship the mouthpiece, we install a blue protective film over the logo to help protect the logo from scratches, but this does not 100% protect them.

We also install a tooth patch before shipping. We recommend leaving these items on the mouthpiece during the testing phase and only to remove them after you have made the decision to keep the mouthpiece.

Please read our terms & conditions (link at the bottom of the page) for full details on this policy.
