Otto Link metal mouthpieces have long been the gold standard for jazz tenor sax players. With a long history of production changes and subsequent sonic changes, the Otto Link sound has evolved into several unique designs. The “New York” Otto Link tenor mouthpiece is a modern take on the original Otto Link “Tone Master” mouthpieces that were made in New York. The new Otto Link New York Metal Tenor Sax Mouthpiece offers the darkest, mellowest sound of all the models. Even better, as of 2026, all New York Models have transitioned to being machined by Theo Wanne.
Who is Theo Wanne?
For those who are not familiar with Theo, he is considered by most as the preeminent mouthpiece maker in the world. With unique designs and state of the art machines, Theo builds the world’s highest quality mouthpieces on the market. So when JJ Babbitt (the makers of Otto Link) sought to improve the Otto Link tenor sax mouthpiece line, they reached out to Theo for the collaboration that will redefine the sax mouthpiece market.
4 Models – One Soul
The new production of Otto Link metal tenor sax mouthpieces will be machined by Theo Wanne. Theo’s team starts with bar stock brass and machines the mouthpiece from that solid bar stock – no more two piece cores being brazed together. The chamber, table, rails, facing and baffle are all done in this machining process.
After the machining is done, the mouthpieces are then sent to the Babbitt team – who have all been trained by Theo and his team for a new exacting standard – for final buffing, cleanup of machining work and hand-finishing before plating (gold over rhodium). This keeps the Link a hand-finished piece but with all the precision of Theo’s machining expertise still in play – and best of all – they play!
All four models feature the Otto Link “core” to their sound, but with unique baffles, chambers and facings to produce your best sound. These models are:
- New York – Based on the original New York “Tone Master” – lowest baffle, large chamber – dark, mellow tone.
- Super Tone Master – The iconic Otto Link core sound meets modern response.
- Florida – Higher roll over baffle for a brighter edge than the Super Tone Master.
- LA – An all new design with a smaller chamber and the highest baffle for the most projection and attack, but a brighter sound.
Why Choose the New York Model?
The Otto Link New York model by Theo Wanne produces the darkest, mellowest sound of all four models. Thanks to the partnership with Theo, the STM sound is now paired with exceptional response. The New York uses the lowest baffle and the largest chamber, so it does require more breath support than the other models.

The Otto Link New York Metal tenor mouthpiece is only going to be available in four standard produced sizes:
- 5* – .085″ Tip Opening
- 6* – .095″ Tip Opening
- 7* – .105″ Tip Opening
- 8* – .115″ Tip Opening
Kessler & Sons Custom Facings
Special order sizes from 4-14 are available, but as special order. We have decided to stock several order sizes so that customers do not have to wait long periods of time or be “stuck” with a special order. The following sizes are ones that we consider “Custom” orders – meaning they still have the special order fee ($50) but we will stock them as part of our normal inventory so that customers have better access to them and our trial/return policy:
- 5 – .080″ Tip Opening
- 6 – .090″ Tip Opening
- 7 – .100″ Tip Opening
- 8 – .110″ Tip Opening
Other sizes from 4-14 will eventually be available for special order only (meaning that Otto Link / Wanne will only make them on special order – they charge us an additional $50 per mouthpiece for this (special order fee) but must wait until production is considered stabilized and standard model backorders are filled.
This is all so that they can focus on improving stock reliability on these new models as well as streamlining production so that the cost of the mouthpiece stays inside a customer friendly price point.

Trial & Return
Kessler & Sons Music offers a 3 day trial / return policy by default on all in stock mouthpieces. There are no cleaning fees or restocking fees (assuming that the item is returned in proper condition).
In order to protect the mouthpiece against scratches & marks when testing, we install a tooth patch before shipping. You are responsible for the condition of the mouthpiece while you are testing it. We highly recommend testing with a fabric style ligature to reduce the risk of scratching. Mouthpieces that are returned with irreparable scratches/marks might not be accepted for return.
