Selmer Paris “NYC Limited Edition” Alto Sax
USA Exclusive Model
The new Selmer Paris NYC Limited Edition saxophones were made to honor the shared tradition and history between the two original Selmer companies, Selmer Paris and Selmer USA. Both companies were critical in the lineage of professional Selmer saxophones that it is only fitting to celebrate this legacy with a horn that belongs solely to the American market. The new Selmer NYC Limited Edition Alto Sax is only going to be available in the USA with a total of 119 being made.
Selmer 2026 “NYC Limited Edition” Alto Sax
Based on the Selmer Signature Series, the NYC Limited Edition Alto Sax offers a truly unique setup that performs a bit different than the traditional Signature Series alto. Why NYC Limited instead of Elkhart Limited you might ask? That is because Selmer USA originated in New York City in 1904 when Alexandre Selmer opened up the NY shop for Selmer USA to distribute their family’s instruments in the US. Eventually, he returned to France in 1910 leaving Selmer USA to continue to evolve and grow on its own and eventually move to Elkhart, Indiana.
So the origins of Selmer USA are in New York City – but the history was done in Elkhart – and this horn pays respect to the full lineage of Selmer USA. These NYC Limited Edition models include the following unique, limited edition features:
-
- Elkhart Shade (darker / more vintage color) Nitrocellulose Lacquer
- Elaborate full horn engraving honoring the various stages of Selmer USA influence on Selmer Paris vintage saxophones
- French-made pads
- Vintage ToneX-style metal resonators
- Soloist D Mouthpiece
- Limited Edition Case and Accessories
Why the Signature Series?
Previous limited edition Selmer Paris models of late have all been based on the Selmer Supreme Series horns as these are well received world-wide. However, the US market is different and as this horn is exclusive to the US market, the horn is being tailored to the response of the US market. While the Supreme is a great horn, it is also a brighter and more spread sound than Selmer Paris has traditionally been. In Dave Kessler’s review of the Signature Series, he elaborates a bit on this but in short, the Supreme is not quite as “traditional” of a sound as what the US market has always preferred from Selmer saxes.
So the Signature Series evolved to fit that demand – a new modern sax with the more traditional, “signature sound” inherent to Selmer Paris saxophones of the past 70 years. The result is saxophone that has more of the “core” and deeper playing resistance that is traditional Selmer, but with the best possible intonation and response ever found in combination with this design.
Unique Elements of the NYC Limited Series
There are 3 truly unique elements to the Selmer NYC Limited Edition Alto Sax. First, a special lacquer was developed for this horn, one that pays homage to the vintage dark lacquer of the Elkhart lacquered vintage Selmers. This nitrocellulose based lacquer is a darker, vintage brown color that is less gold and simply deeper in shade. It looks stellar!
Then, the engraving on this horn pulls in many tributes to the artisan engravers of the Selmer USA past. While yes, this is machine engraved, the artwork reminisces to the old portrait style engraving of the older Balanced Action models, while also pulling in many little tributes to Selmer USA history throughout the elaborate engraving. How many can you find?
Finally, the pads & resonators call back to the pads and resos used in the vintage horns. A special French made pad was designed specifically for these horns, to show a color and texture in line with the pads used back in Elkhart vintage horns, but a firmer pads in line with modern pads to maintain the highest end performance. These pads were then paired with a special ToneX style oversized metal dome resonator offering a more reflective surface than standard plastic, providing the added projection and tonal ‘ping’ associated with the most sought-after vintage Selmers.
All of these elements combine to give the excellent traditional performance of the Signature Series but in a horn that has just enough special nod and tribute to the US market players. While perhaps not quite as flashy as the last few Selmer Limited Edition Saxophones, we might have to say that these NYC Limited Edition models are probably our favorite as they check all of the right boxes: elegant, unique, and truly Selmer.
Why 119 Altos?
This is part of the homage to Selmer USA’s part in Selmer Paris history. Selmer USA’s first shop in 1909 was on 86th Street in New York (hence the 86 quantity on the tenors). In 1920, they relocated to 119 West 46th Street which is where the 119 quantity on the altos comes from.
Note, the horns do not have their unique “series” number on them. Instead, each NYC Limited alto includes a certificate of authenticity showing which number in the series it is.

Kessler & Sons Music
Official Selmer Paris Pro Shop
Kessler & Sons Music is proud to be a Selmer Paris Pro Shop. Selmer Paris Pro Shops are carefully selected in order to offer the professional setup, experience and knowledge that Selmer Paris owners need. They are not chosen based on sales numbers but rather by expertise of the shop. Selmer Paris honors us with this designation and we work very hard to provide this expertise to every customer.
One of the added benefits to being a ProShop is getting priority access to models such as this Selmer 2026 NYC Limited Edition Alto Sax. Most dealers are lucky to even get 1 if any at all… especially with low production numbers like this, with only 119 altos total being offered in the USA. We get a max allotment of 8, but will have them before standard dealers!
Professional Setup
Every horn we send out to a customer is not released from us unless it has been completely setup in our shop first. This is because the setup on the horn is of the utmost importance! Sometimes, a saxophone (regardless of who the manufacturer or the price point is) comes in needing 20 minutes of adjustments and then the very next one can require 2 hours! So if you were to get 5 of the same model right out of the box, they will all play different which leads people to believe that they are “good” or “bad” saxes… but the reality is that the one that was the best out of the 5 was likely the one that needed the least amount of work and on the flip side, the “bad” sax was the one that needed 2 hours worth of adjustments!
Once the same 5 saxophones are properly regulated and adjusted to perfection, they become near identical saxophones that even the pickiest of players would be challenged to pick a true “favorite” horn. However, since most stores do not or even can not perform this setup, the player never knows this and is simply relying on the luck of the draw. This is why we perform our setup (in our www.SaxophoneRepairs.com ProShop) on them before delivering your new sax to you. You trust us with your purchase and we want to make sure that you are rewarded by giving you your ideal saxophone setup flawlessly!
