Used Schreiber 7060 Intermediate Oboe
Made in Germany | Lined Bore
Made in Germany, the Schreiber 7060 oboe is the same model that was most commonly found in the USA as the Buffet 4052 Intermediate Oboe. Buffet at the time out-sourced the intermediate oboe production to Schreiber, but has since acquired Schreiber as part of a buyout in the early 2010’s.
This model (under the Buffet 4052 label) was one of the most trusted intermediate oboes in the USA. The main reason being that this wood oboe featured a “Luracast” synthetic liner on the interior of the two main body joints (not in the bell). This gave players a true wood oboe’s performance, with the durability of a synthetic oboe against cracks. This “liner” concept has since been adopted by many other makers, but the Schreiber/Buffet oboes were among the most innovative in bringing it to the market.
About this used Schreiber Oboe
This oboe was sold by our shop brand new in May 2010. At that time, Buffet & Schreiber weren’t getting along very well and Schreiber decided to try promoting their own brand more in the USA (before the eventual buyout). This particular oboe, #60357, was actually the first of the 7060 models that we sold new. It has been owned and maintained by one player that whole time and was kept in great condition. However, as that was 15 years ago, it was time for some extra maintenance, which we have performed on the instrument.
We completely disassembled the oboe, cleaned the instrument, oiled the wood (exterior), replaced all of the non-cork pads with leather pads in the lower few keys of the oboe, and completely re-regulated the instrument. It is back in new playing condition now and ready to serve! Even the original case is in near perfect condition.
