Yamaha 480 Bari Sax – YBS-480
Intermediate Low A Bari Sax

The Yamaha 480 Bari Sax is designed to give an exceptional performance regardless of the player. While the 480 bari is designed as an “intermediate” bari sax, with some features designed specifically for student musicians, the horn is able to hold it’s own in any performance environment. Updates to the bell, bore, neck, and key layout make the Yamaha 480 Bari Sax the most accessible Yamaha baritone saxophone yet! The YBS-480 replaces the YBS-52 model.

Improved Ergonomics
Yamaha saxophone keys are designed from the player’s perspective, with emphasis on comfort, speed, and overall playability. This redesigned key layout makes the 480 bari sax easier to hold and play.

Bore & Neck Design
While billed as an intermediate sax, the Yamaha 480 uses a vertically integrated bore and neck design from the YBS-62II, helping the instrument respond more like a professional horn. The 480 baritone also features a new, shorter bell helping to center the challenging intonation of the baritone saxophone’s lowest notes.

Floor Peg Option
The 480 baritone also features an optional floor peg to help support the weight of the baritone sax.

Professional Pad Setup
The 480 baritone uses the same high end Pisoni Pro pads used in the Custom Series bari sax! These pads are a firmer pad than traditional pads which improves the feel of the horn as well as the performance. Firmer pads absorb less acoustically and reflect out more. This improves response, projection and tone. To see this level of padwork on an intermediate horn is truly impressive!

Professional Setup
Every horn we send out to a customer is not released from us unless it has been completely setup in our shop first. This is because the setup on the horn is of the utmost importance! Sometimes, a saxophone (regardless of who the manufacturer) comes in needing 20 minutes of adjustments and then the very next one can require 2 hours! So if you were to get 5 of the same model right out of the box, they will all play different. This leads players to believe that they are “good” or “bad” saxes. The reality is that the one that was the best out of the 5 was likely the one that needed the least amount of work and the “bad” sax was the one that needed 2 hours worth of adjustments!

Once the same 5 saxophones are properly regulated and adjusted to perfection, they become near identical saxophones. Even the pickiest of players would be challenged to pick a true “favorite” horn. However, since most stores do not or even can not perform this setup, the player never knows this and is simply relying on the luck of the draw.
