Kessler Custom Performance Series Alto Sax
Intermediate Performance at a Student Alto Sax Price!
Our Performance Series Alto Sax features the same advanced bore design that we use on our professional models. They are combined with a light weight “single post to body” construction to make the instrument vibrate easier for younger players. However, as the player grows, the saxophone grows with them due to the advanced professional bore. To help keep cost down, these models do not have any bell engraving other than the brand logo stamp on the bell. The keywork, pads & body tubes are the same parts used on our more expensive Standard Series saxophones. The Performance Series Alto Sax gives you an intermediate alto sax at a price better than a student alto sax from the other brands!
Student Price, Intermediate Performance!
Our Performance Series alto uses the same bore concept that is used throughout our entire Kessler Custom lineup. This bore is based around modern, French professional bore concepts. Whereas most student models feature a student bore, we feel that students are better suited with a higher performance design that has been setup to be easier to play for them. So we utilize a lighter weight design in several areas around the horn to decrease the weight and thus improve the vibrational response from the horn, making it easier for a student to play. This allows them to grow with a professional bore.
This lowered weight is done primarily by using a feature called “Single Post to Body Construction”. This is where each key post is directly soldered on to the body tube. Our true intermediate models such as the Standard & Deluxe Series, as well as our Handmade models use a heavier “Ribbed Body Construction” (where posts are first soldered to a body “rib” that is then attached to the body). This Single Post to Body Construction allows for less weight on the body tube and thus allows for easier vibration.
The Performance Series also uses a lighter weight neck receiver on the body and has a few less key guards attached to it. All of these things combined really add up and allow for easy vibration while still offering a richer, more complex tone than traditional “student alto saxes” on the market.

Professional Setup
Every horn we send out to a customer is not released from us unless it has been completely setup in our shop first. This is because the setup on the horn is of the utmost importance! Sometimes, a saxophone (regardless of who the manufacturer or whether it is a student alto sax or a pro model) comes in needing 20 minutes of adjustments and then the very next one can require 2 hours! So if you were to get 5 of the same model right out of the box, they will all play different which leads people to believe that they are “good” or “bad” saxes… but the reality is that the one that was the best out of the 5 was likely the one that needed the least amount of work and on the flip side, the “bad” sax was the one that needed 2 hours worth of adjustments!
Once the same 5 saxophones are properly regulated and adjusted to perfection, they become near identical saxophones that even the pickiest of players would be challenged to pick a true “favorite” horn. However, since most stores do not or even can not perform this setup, the player never knows this and is simply relying on the luck of the draw. This is why we perform our setup (in our www.SaxophoneRepairs.com ProShop) on them before delivering your new sax to you. You trust us with your purchase and we want to make sure that you are rewarded by giving you your ideal saxophone setup flawlessly!

The price was so low I was skeptical, but Kessler & Sons was so highly recommended that we ordered one and went with the Selmer C* mouthpiece upgrade as well. The instrument was packed with great care and arrived in immaculate condition—not a scratch or smudge on anything. The instrument itself is mind blowing! Solid, great action, amazing sound! Holds its own against any saxophone, and at an unbeatable price point! Highly recommend! In my mind, this saxophone with the C* mouthpiece is the best saxophone setup you can get for $1000.
