Yamaha 62 Piccolo
Professional Wood Piccolo | Standard Headjoint
Yamaha piccolos are among the most trusted piccolos in the industry. Known for their exceptional build quality, ease of response and impeccable intonation, these piccolos offer players an amazing performance regardless of their level. The Yamaha 62 Piccolo (YPC-62) is a long-time favorite of professional musicians and can be found in many top orchestras worldwide. Characterized by excellent intonation and playability. It features a headjoint and body of carefully seasoned Grenadilla wood for a warm full tone. The Yamaha 62 Piccolo is offered with a standard style headjoint cut for a richer tone, but is also available with a wave cut as the model YPC-62R at an additional cost.
Standard vs. Wave Headjoint
The Yamaha 62 Piccolo is available with either a standard style headjoint or a wave style headjoint (model YPC-62R). The standard/traditional cut offers a richer tone but the wave cut offers quicker response, especially in the upper register. The down side to the wave is that it will brighten the sound a bit. You will find players & teachers who will prefer one style over the other, sometimes rather passionately, so neither is a right or a wrong choice, just a personal preference.
If you prefer a richer tone AND are willing to practice your piccolo regularly, you will likely prefer the standard headjoint used on the Yamaha 62 Piccolo. However, if you tend to not want to practice your piccolo as regularly or you prefer a slightly quicker response and a bit brighter tone, then you would likely prefer the wave headjoint.

Professional Setup
Every piccolo we send out to a customer is not released from us unless it has been completely setup in our shop first. This is because the setup on the flute is of the utmost importance! We setup every piccolo, regardless of brand or price, to an adjustment standard that is in line of professional piccolos. Even though the Yamaha 62 Piccolo doesn’t use Straubinger pads, as a Straubinger certified shop, we still put the same care in to every piccolo’s performance that we would if it was a top of the line handmade custom piccolo. We know how to make the Yamaha 62 Piccolo perform to its fullest potential.
