New Custom Series Wave Headjoint
The Yamaha 87R features a new headjoint design with a slightly squared embouchure hole shape that offers easier high-range and pianissimo playability. Also, the area around the embouchure hole features a wave shape that improves clarity of articulation, response and overall playability.

Redesigned Bore
Yamaha piccolos have always been known for exceptional intonation and easy response. The 87R Piccolo features a redesigned bore taper that uses thicker body walls to help deliver both a brilliant tone with deep resonance and a solid tonal core, even in quiet passages.

Straubinger Pads & Professional Setup
For the highest grade performance possible, Yamaha has employed the use of Straubinger pads in the 87R piccolo. These pads are used on only the world’s finest flutes and piccolos to help achieve the most response and performance possible. These pads however do require a more skilled technician to properly work on and adjust. Rest assured though as our shop is a Certified Straubinger Shop! When you purchase a new Yamaha 87R Piccolo from our shop, we make sure the instrument is completely setup in our shop first.

Solid Sterling Silver Keywork & Gold Springs
Finishing out the true refinement of the piccolo, Yamaha utilizes Solid Sterling Silver keys, posts & rings. Sterling keys will add additional mass to the instrument helping it to achieve a slightly richer tonal core. The piccolo is also upgraded with white gold springs for an effortless key action and feel.
