The new DURGA Rubber Alto sax mouthpiece (aka DURGA-3) has a rich and full contemporary sound. Based around the 2nd Generation DURGA metal mouthpiece, the DURGA rubber alto has a slightly different baffle design to increase response and is combined with a traditional size hard rubber for a richer core!
It has a uniquely designed baffle (part of our patented interior design) coupled with deeply rounded inner side walls, and a special power version of our True Large Chamber. The power version of our True Large Chamber incorporates a power ring which radically tapers the True Large Chamber down to a small chamber giving it the full sound inherent in our True Large Chamber AND the power of a small chamber.
2nd Generation Chamber Design
The new DURGA rubber alto models feature an inverted “power ring” design. The 1st Gen models used a power ring that decreased the bore of the chamber drastically before the air column enters the horn. The new 2nd Gen models do the opposite. The new power ring is more appropriately called a “power groove” as it is a grove that increases the bore slightly and then shrinks back down. This concept provides the same type of response due to the creation of a turbulence layer at the groove, but allows for better air flow on the alto DURGA rubber alto mouthpiece giving even more power than before!
