Solist Low A Bari Sax
Our Solist brand of instruments are built exclusively for us with value in mind. We realize that when shopping for a Low A Bari sax, many parents and players do not want to or simply cannot afford to go spend $7,000+ on a major brand name instrument. Sadly, this has also opened up the market for many inferior quality instruments to be sold on auction sites, in swap meets and other stores that are simply looking for the lowest cost instrument that can be sold.
This is simply unacceptable for any player. We all NEED a good quality instrument in order to grow and progress and enjoy playing music. Inferior instruments detract from this and make it difficult for anyone to progress and grow in our playing ability.
Our Solist Low A Bari Sax is the answer to this dilemma.
Additional Information
Professional Setup
Every horn we send out to a customer is not released from us unless it has been completely setup in our shop first. This is because the setup on the horn is of the utmost importance! Sometimes, a saxophone (regardless of who the manufacturer or the price point is) comes in needing 20 minutes of adjustments and then the very next one can require 2 hours! So if you were to get 5 of the same model right out of the box, they will all play different which leads people to believe that they are “good” or “bad” saxes… but the reality is that the one that was the best out of the 5 was likely the one that needed the least amount of work and on the flip side, the “bad” sax was the one that needed 2 hours worth of adjustments!
Once the same 5 saxophones are properly regulated and adjusted to perfection, they become near identical saxophones that even the pickiest of players would be challenged to pick a true “favorite” horn. However, since most stores do not or even can not perform this setup, the player never knows this and is simply relying on the luck of the draw. This is why we perform our setup (in our www.SaxophoneRepairs.com ProShop) on them before delivering your new sax to you. You trust us with your purchase and we want to make sure that you are rewarded by giving you your ideal saxophone setup flawlessly!

I bought this bari after searching around for a decent sax at a reasonable price. Normally I would never buy a horn without trying it. I have played brand new horns ay music stores that were not adjusted properly. I found a lot of cheap Chinese saxophones on line. I looked at used horns on different sites and checked out some local music stores. I am a 65 and retired. I play bass mainly but I also play saxophone although I have not played one in years. I have always wanted a bari sax. I played one in Jr High and High school. During my search I stumbled upon Kessler and Sons. They had a bari at a very reasonable price. The thing that got me was the Kessler Advantage. I figured if they are bold enough to assure you that the sax will play great right out of the box, I had to find out. The price is right (although as of writing this the price did go down a couple of hundred bucks due to Black Friday, that’s cool , like in music timing is everything) The horn played great. I couldn’t be happier. The Kessler Advantage is real and they can back it up. I got the Rico B7 mouth piece with a strap and a half decent case. This is exactly what I was looking for. I would highly recommend doing business with Kessler and Sons. I am sure this isn’t the last sax I buy from them.

Love this horn. Plays easily and in tune throughout the entire range of the horn!!!…seriously. I have absolutely no regrets. I considered ordering a cheap bari off of ebay but I’m so glad I didn’t. Out of the 4 saxophones I own, this is the only one I didn’t have to take to my local tech to start using. This is the first bari I’ve ever played and thought it would be more difficult to play but I can hit the low A and high F# on this horn with absolutely no problem. Also, their customer service is top notch. Dave Kessler even replied to my email on Christmas Day! My problem now is I have to look into selling my other horns so I can replace them with the other Kessler models.

I would like to preface this review that it hav owned this horn for going on 7 years at time of writing. I purchased this horn with the help of my parents in my junior year of high school, and I am currently studying classical saxophone performance in my senior year of college. I come at this review from a slightly different perspective than the majority of saxophonists because I am primarily a baritone player. Alto is my secondary saxophone, and that being the case I have run this horn through the wringer. and now. for my honest review.
If you are looking here, or ebay, or wherever else. close all tabs but this one, buy a Protec bari case some upholstry foam and some fabric to make spacers in the case, buy this horn and go on about your day. The lengths I have had to push myself and this horn to begin to find fault is enough for me to recommend this horn to anyone looking for a baritone as a secondary or as a student.
The case will be the first thing to go, it’s not a problem with the case, for most people it will be perfectly fine, being a college student and traveling puts a lot of wear and tear on your case, and the case lacks several features I consider essential like backpack straps and a shoulder strap.
I would also recommend investing in a mouthpiece upgrade. At the time of purchasing this hornI played on a Vandoren BL3 and only recently upgraded, I would recommend getting a BL4 of 5 though the added tip opening will serve you longer than the rather closed off 3. I could also recommend a Selmer S80 C*, it’s the gold standard for a reason and assuming you can find a good one, you’ll be right on your way. I really can’t recommend the included Rico B7 for anything involving classical playing or marching. A good quality mouthpiece and reeds will do more for you than a $12000 Selmer bari. if you’re looking for a baritone jazz mouthpiece I recommend trying as many as you can and finding what fit’s the sound you imagine.
The only issue I had with this horn when i first got it was some questionable intonation in the palm keys but this was remedied with a simple key hight adjustment from my local repair tech. In hindsight, I wonder if the key heights weren’t fine and I just wasn’t using proper air support for that register. I also Would like to note that the low A mechanism is a little mushy for lack of a better word. It’s perfectly functional just a little heavy and not very tactile, this is a problem with baritone saxophones in general I would recommend getting in the habit of pressing low Bb alongside your low A just to limit the wear and tear on the low A mechanism. I had my bell keys opened up a bit recently and the difference in the response of that register was like night and day, I woud only recommend this if you have a good relationship with your tech and you can test the horn to give them feedback on what they’re doing.
Final Thoughts: This is a very nice horn and will serve you well for years to come. I could nitpick little things about this horn but overall its a phenomenal instrument and I would be lying if I said any of my gripes effected the overall playability of this horn. I study with a very prominent classical saxophonist and only under their tutelage was I able to push this horn to it’s limit, and even then it is an absolute joy to play and I do not ever plan on letting it go. Genuinely for under $3000 you will be very hard pressed to do better. Happy Saxophoning!

I’m amazed how great this bari sax is. The best bari I played before this one was the Yanagisawa B991 and I think this Kessler Solist easily plays just as well. It was perfectly set up when I received it… no leaks. The whole range is consistent and effortless,.. even down to low A. There is no unevenness like some people say about low A bari saxes when going down to the low A. Low Bb and low B and low C all sound even… none of the notes jump out as different. This means the sax is well vented allowing the evenness of notes up and down the whole range. Here is a link to me playing this sax: https://youtube.com/shorts/CjGiO7dxyTo

Glad you enjoy it! They are the best value on the bari sax market without a doubt!

I already reviewed this bari… look at my previous review. I just wanted to give an additional update on how I still love this bari. In my previous review I already said how this bari plays as good as the Yanigaswa B991 I played in the 90’s. I’m having even more fun now that I switched to using Otto Link STM mouthpieces on this bari. I will put a link of me playing this setup below. I was shocked recently when I tried two new Otto Link STM mouthpieces (not the V version… I don’t know if Otto Link makes the V version for bari). I am shocked at how good these mouthpieces are. I think Otto Link is using new equipment to make these mouthpieces (and I think people at Otto Link are doing some hand-finishing that is actually good). I love both the 7 and 7*, so I kept them both. I’ve avoided Otto Link mouthpieces in the past because of the awful facings, but Otto Link is now making mouthpieces that work. In this video (link below) I am using the 7. I will also use the 7* in future videos. Both of these mouthpieces have amazing altissimo with this Solist bari. The altissimo is fat and beautiful sounding. My reed was a little soft in this video, so my altissimo G came out a little brighter than I was expecting… but even with a soft reed the note came out beautiful and in tune. Here’s the video (listen to the altissimo G at 2:20): https://youtu.be/xnCSXhddLHM
