Eastman 52nd Street Bari Sax
Huge Vintage Tone with Modern Performance
Eastman 52nd Street Bari Sax
The Eastman 52nd Street bari is one of the finest saxophone values on the market today! The Eastman 52nd Street series of horns are quickly gaining a reputation among players around the US for their incredible tonal performance – one that offers a massive, vintage style tone – and balancing it with great build quality & affordability! The 52nd Street bari is right in line with this reputation.
How does it play?
There are some obvious influences all over the 52nd Street bari sax. The mechanism shares a lot of similarity to Yanagisawa designs, though not a “copy” by any means. The Soldered Rim toneholes are most notable on Keilwerth pro models. There’s more but in the end, the 52nd Street bari is an animal all to its own. The horn has a very complex, rich tone with excellent response and a large tonal presence. The build quality is also absolutely stellar and is one of the best manufactured and padded saxes we have come across. This truly is an amazing horn that offers a perfect blend of just about everything a player wants in a horn!

Soldered Tone Hole Rims – Not Rolled
The Eastman 52nd Street baris use Soldered Rim Tone Holes (they refer to it as “Rolled-style”). Soldered rim tone holes are a modern improvement over the vintage “rolled” tone hole concept made popular by vintage American saxophones. The benefit is that they will increase the mass of the horn providing a generally overall richer tone. The soldered rim concept also offers better repair potential in the future (if needed) over rolled tone holes. With a true rolled tone hole, if the tone hole is ever damaged, they are significantly harder to repair and in some cases, can never be repaired back to 100% original design or levelness.
With the soldered rim concept, they can be properly repaired easier if ever needed and should they need to be leveled in the repair, they can as they are a solid piece of brass rather than a folded over rim. The soldered rim concept costs more to produce than the rolled tone hole, but in the end, we find that they perform better and offer better reliability in the future for the player.
Professionally Setup
Professional Setup
Every horn we send out to a customer is not released from us unless it has been completely setup in our shop first. This is because the setup on the horn is of the utmost importance! Sometimes, a saxophone (regardless of who the manufacturer) comes in needing 20 minutes of adjustments and then the very next one can require 2 hours! So if you were to get 5 of the same model right out of the box, they will all play different. This leads players to believe that they are “good” or “bad” saxes. The reality is that the one that was the best out of the 5 was likely the one that needed the least amount of work and the “bad” sax was the one that needed 2 hours worth of adjustments!
Once properly regulated and adjusted to perfection, these become near identical saxophones. You will be challenged to pick a true “favorite” horn when testing out properly setup saxes. However, since most stores do not or even can not perform this setup, the player never knows this and is simply relying on the luck of the draw. This is why we perform our setup (in our www.SaxophoneRepairs.com ProShop) on them before delivering your new sax to you. You trust us with your purchase and we want to make sure that you are rewarded by giving you your ideal saxophone setup flawlessly!
