1980 Selmer Paris Mark VII Alto Sax
Original Lacquer – ProShop Overhauled

The Selmer Mark VII Alto Sax is a model that gets overlooked by players all too often. The successor to the Mark VI, many believe the Mark VII to be not quite the same caliber of sax as the Mark VI was. While there is some truth to that, there are reasons behind that belief that many players simply don’t understand. In reality, the Mark VII is actually quite a solid playing horn once brought up to it’s fullest performance potential – which we have done with our ProShop Overhaul (more on that below). In reality, Mark VII models were not built as well as VI’s… toneholes were less level, keywork was fit less tight and rods were loose to their hinge tubes.

Plainly put, the Mark VII wasn’t built as well as the Mark VI. So its not surprising that people tended to not like them as much. However, ALL of these issues can be fixed with modern tooling. In our experience, once properly rebuilt, the Mark VII alto a great playing sax, worthy of the “Vintage Selmer” mystique! Since we have done this overhaul, this is such a horn!

Serial 314,011 – Original Lacquer (European), Freshly Overhauled
This particular Selmer Mark VII Alto Sax is serial number 314,011 which was a European made model that was made for the Hong Kong market. This means that it has the French lacquer (not US lacquer) and French engraving pattern. This is the engraving pattern & lacquer that eventually became the standard for ALL Selmer models once the Super Action 80 series began.

This horn was a 1 owner sax. He bought it new in Hong Kong in 1980 and played it for a few years before putting it away. The lacquer is largely in tact, but there is some brass oxidation where the lacquer has worn and in the engraving (the pink copper hue). The sax has never had any damage to it or re-solder spots. Neck has never been bent. The original case, mouthpiece and neck strap are included and are in excellent condition.
