Powell Sonare Flutes

Verne Powell developed the Ardeleve flute around 1951 by placing a Powell headjoint on a flute made in France. The Powell Sonare flutes are based on this concept. All Powell Sonare flutes feature a hand-cut, professional headjoint and body tube made in the Powell Flutes Boston area shop. Powell Sonare flutes are available in a range of levels, all of which allow the player to perform with the renowned, professional Powell Sound virtuosity at a step-up flute price.

2nd Generation Headjoint
The Powell Sonare flutes feature the new 2nd Generation Solid Silver “Signature Series” headjoint. This new model incorporates the lip plate from the Powell Philharmonic headjoint with the Signature cut. The end result is more power, projection and response.

About Sonare Flutes
Sonare Flutes retain some of the design features from the Powell Signature flute that are critical for acoustical quality. Sonare flutes feature bodies made using patented Zinki technology (U.S. patent #7,420,109) and handmade Powell Signature headjoints. Both the body and headjoint are made at Powell’s Massachusetts workshop. These headjoints can also be upgraded on select models (501, 505, 601, 705) to include an Aurumite 9k lip plate!

Every Sonare model includes an elegant French style case, nylon case cover, swab stick, gauze swab and polishing cloth.

500/600/700 vs 900 Series
The standard Sonare models (500-700 Series) feature a body tube that is made by Powell but has Keywork & Padding performed in Asia; final adjustments performed in Boston. The new 905 (900 Series) model features upgrades in the padding utilizing top end professional Straubinger Phoenix pads that are also installed completely by Powell in Boston rather than Asia. The 900 Series also has a 9k Aurumite headjoint barrel, 9k Aurumite lip plate and 9k Aurumite crown by default.

The Sonaré alto flute features an all sterling silver headjoint made at the Powell shop (available in either a straight or curved tube), elegant pointed arms, silver plated nickel-silver keys, ergonomically designed touch pieces and A-442 pitch. The alto flute is available with a sterling silver body (model AF-70) or silver plated nickel-silver (model AF-60) body.
