Kessler Custom instruments are designed to provide a perfect combination of performance, quality and value for our customers. We work hand in hand with our factory partners in order to achieve this goal, and with our Performance Flute, we feel we have more than just succeeded, but rather have completely excelled!
The concept behind our Flute is a simple one, provide a high caliber instrument in a budget friendly price point. This was done by focusing on the DESIGN rather than the marketing. In the end, the design of a flute (specifically the headjoint) is more important than the metal that the instrument is made out of. Granted, the material does still make a difference, but its difference is not as drastic. Don’t worry, we didn’t skimp on the materials with our Performance Flute either! Read on to find out more!
and dynamics throughout the range of the instrument. A high-end flute without the high-end price!”
Additional Information
Professional Design
With our Flute, we focused on the design. The headjoint is a hand-cut, professional design that allows for excellent tonal expression and a quick response. The keywork of our flute features all of the features that most players want standard. Features such as Off-Set G with Split E Mechanism, French Style Pointed Key Arms, Low B with Gizmo and high end padwork.
This focus on design instead of just the material (like most makers focus on) allows us to offer an exceptionally high caliber performing flute at a reasonable price!
Special Japanese Nickel-Silver
The design is more important than the material that the flute is made out of. However, this does not mean that the material doesn’t make a difference. Solid Silver has always been the industry’s preference as it gives a richer tone than traditional nickel-silver as it is heavier. Silver is also easy to manufacture with as it is a softer metal. The downside to silver is the cost.
This is why we chose a special Nickel-Silver from Japan.
- Normal Nickel-Silver: 60% Copper, 20% Nickel, 20% Zinc
- Japanese Nickel-Silver: 67% Copper, 30% Nickel, 3% Zinc
This alloy gives us a heavier nickel-silver that is closer to the weight of Solid Silver helping to give our Performance Flute a richer tone more in line with solid silver, but without the price!
Solid Silver Riser
The headjoint is the most important part of its performance. On the headjoint, the riser (this is the tube that connects the lip plate to the headjoint tube) makes the most ounce per ounce difference in your flute’s performance. So we did decide to pair a Solid Silver Riser with the Japanese Nickel-Silver tube to give as rich of a tone with as affordable of a cost possible.
Pads & Grommets
Your flute’s pad setup impacts your flute’s overall performance, the stability of your flute and the flute’s tonal projection. This is why we opted to use the professional Lucien Deluxe pads which are then secured using delrin pad grommets. While a pad grommet might not sound impressive to most players, they will improve the durability of the flute (compared to traditional metal pad grommets) as they allow for easier removal and reinstallation thus limiting torn pads during routine flute maintenance. Delrin grommets are used on many of the industry’s $10,000+ flutes!
Professional Setup
Every instrument we send out to a customer is not released from us unless it has been completely setup in our shop first. This is because the setup on your flute is of the utmost importance! Sometimes, an instrument (regardless of who the manufacturer or the price point is) comes in needing 20 minutes of adjustments and then the very next one can require 2 hours!
This is why we perform our setup in our ProShop on every instrument before delivering it to our customers. You trust us with your purchase and we want to make sure that you are rewarded by giving you your new instrument setup flawlessly!
