Solist SAS300 Alto Sax
A Better Student Sax!
Our Solist brand of instruments are built exclusively for us with value in mind. We realize that when shopping for a student alto sax, many parents and players do not want to or simply cannot afford to go spend a tone of money on a student instrument. Sadly, this has also opened up the market for many inferior quality instruments to be sold on auction sites, in swap meets and other stores that are simply looking for the lowest cost instrument that can be sold. So we have sought constantly to provide you with a Better Student Sax, and now, we have something truly amazing in the new Solist SAS300 Alto Sax!
Pro Design, Student Price
The Solist SAS300 student alto sax is designed around a popular French professional concept. Most French pro designs are designed for the advanced player who can support their air column, which helps produce a richer tone. On the flip side, most traditional student alto sax models are designed to be so easy to play, through the use of lighter weight and smaller bore, that players tend to struggle producing a richer tone as they develop leading to the need to upgrade.
Our Solist SAS300 model uses a perfect hybrid of a more responsive French pro design and proper mass, but with manufacturing refinements to bring out the most response possible. This way the student still receives a horn that they can learn on now but doesn’t hinder their ability to grow and produce a richer tone as they progress.
Plainly put: this is NOT a student alto sax but an excellent performance level alto at a student price!
Features
As a Saxophone ProShop, we know how to provide you with an excellent horn. As this is one of our own products, we go the extra mile to make sure you receive a solid instrument, not just an affordable one. Some of these additional attention to details features include:
- Unique Custom Pad with Metal Resonators
A truly exceptional custom made pad with great response. A significantly harder pad backing material is used to decrease the acoustic absorption at the pad (since pads are made from felt and leather, which absorb vibration) providing better response throughout. This is a technique used by custom professional flute makers. - Blued Steel Needle Springs
High quality tempered blued steel springs provide quick action and durability compared to cheaper steel wire springs. - ABS Shell in Lightweight Case
Since this is a sax for students, a lightweight case is a must. However, many lightweight cases are also very fragile. The case we include uses an ABS outer rim shell inside of the fabric/foam materials to provide durability while still keeping the case lightweight. Integrated backpack straps and plenty of storage make this a great case for students. - Performance Mouthpiece with Upgrade Options
We include one of our Kessler Custom student C* mouthpieces with the Solist alto sax. This provides players a mouthpiece that they can start with and that promotes growth. We also offer several discounted upgrade options to other popular models to fit whatever need your student (or their teacher) might have!

Professional Setup
Every horn we send out to a customer is not released from us unless it has been completely setup in our shop first. This is because the setup on the horn is of the utmost importance! Sometimes, a saxophone (regardless of who the manufacturer or whether it is a student alto sax or a pro model) comes in needing 20 minutes of adjustments and then the very next one can require 2 hours! So if you were to get 5 of the same model right out of the box, they will all play different which leads people to believe that they are “good” or “bad” saxes… but the reality is that the one that was the best out of the 5 was likely the one that needed the least amount of work and on the flip side, the “bad” sax was the one that needed 2 hours worth of adjustments!
Once the same 5 saxophones are properly regulated and adjusted to perfection, they become near identical saxophones that even the pickiest of players would be challenged to pick a true “favorite” horn. However, since most stores do not or even can not perform this setup, the player never knows this and is simply relying on the luck of the draw. This is why we perform our setup (in our www.SaxophoneRepairs.com ProShop) on them before delivering your new sax to you. You trust us with your purchase and we want to make sure that you are rewarded by giving you your ideal saxophone setup flawlessly!
Where’s it made?
In order to keep cost down, this sax is made in China – but that doesn’t mean much these days! Did you know that many major name brand saxes are now made in China? Not long ago, “Made in China” meant that the quality was low which is why the cost was low. However, over the past decade, we have seen massive improvements from China and it is no longer an issue of “where” it is made, but rather “who” is making it! We have been working with this factory now for years making our Solist flute and new model of clarinet and have been continually impressed with their performance. Now, we have worked with them to produce a high quality and affordable alto sax, a truly Better Alto Sax, that builds on this partnership.
