1st Generation Model

The Selmer Axos alto sax was designed to respond to the ever-changing needs of student and professional musicians. The Axos combines the acoustic design of the Series II & Series III horns for a rich & responsive instrument. Originally launched under the sub-brand of “SeleS by Selmer Paris”, the Axos was widely found to offer exceptional quality and performance at an affordable price point. This used Axos alto sax is one of 1st generation models of the line, but made at the end of that production before the changeover to the 2nd Generation Axos.

1st vs 2nd Generation Axos
Generation one came out in 2015. The 2nd Gen models came out in 2021. The difference was in branding, lacquer color and engraving pattern. The acoustic design and quality of the Axos did not change. As a result, this used Axos alto sax plays the same as the current 2nd Gen models. The specific changes in the Generations were as follows:

• Branding – Gen 1 was a “SeleS by Selmer Paris” brand vs Gen 2 is simply the traditional Selmer Paris brand.
• Engraving – Gen 1 was more like the Super 80 engraving from the 1990’s vs the Gen 2 is its own unique engraving.
• Lacquer Color – Gen 1 was a more traditional clear lacquer like the Super 80’s from the 1990’s vs Gen 2 is a darker gold tinted lacquer.

As you can see, all the differences are cosmetic.

About this Used Axos Alto Sax
This horn, serial A09240, was made near the end of the 1st Generation run, late 2020. It was purchased by a player who wanted to get back in to playing. Unfortunately, due to health issues, the previous owner could not devote the time needed to the instrument and it ended up sitting in the case largely unplayed. It has a few very light scratches on the neck and on the back of the body, but otherwise shows no signs of use. There is one small “acid bleed” spot (under the front F mechanism post – see pictures) but is otherwise in near perfect condition.

Professional Setup in our Official Selmer Paris ProShop
Every Selmer Paris Axos Alto Sax we send out to a customer is not released from us unless it has been completely setup in our shop first. This is because the setup on the horn is of the utmost importance! Sometimes, a saxophone (regardless of who the manufacturer or the price point is) comes in needing 20 minutes of adjustments and then the very next one can require 2 hours! This leads people to believe that they are “good” or “bad” saxes. The reality is quite different. When you play a sax that needs 2 hours of work, of course it won’t play as well as it should!!

Once the same 5 saxophones are properly regulated and adjusted to perfection, they become near identical saxophones that even the pickiest of players would be challenged to pick a true “favorite” horn. However, since most stores do not or even can not perform this setup, the player never knows this and is simply relying on the luck of the draw.
