About this Used Keilwerth SX90 Tenor Sax – Serial Number 121288
This Keilwerth SX90 Tenor Sax was made roughly in the early 2000’s and is a great player. The neck has had the octave key mount pushed slightly into the tube, but this is at a spot that makes it near impossible to repair without other cosmetic damage – and the horn plays great so we opted to leave that alone. Otherwise, the horn is in great physical condition, but does have plenty of signs of use. These include some scratches and work finish areas. Please review all photos in the listing to see these. However, these are simply cosmetic and overall, the horn is in solid shape. It has been completely serviced in our ProShop.

SX90 vs SX90R
The SX90 & SX90R for a long time were produced side by side. They are the identical sax with one difference, the toneholes.

- SX90 – Traditional “Straight” Toneholes
- SX90R – Soldered Rim Toneholes
The soldered rim toneholes on the SX90R are a modern equivalent to “rolled” toneholes used on many vintage American and German saxes. They offer a wider contact area on the pad and also increase the mass on the body tube at the tonehole giving the horn a little darker tone. The difference is not huge, but it is there. in 2006, Keilwerth decided to discontinue the SX90 and focus all of their production on the SX90R thus simplifying their production. There was some discussion in 2008 about bringing back a version of the SX90 that would be called the Tone King, and a small number were produced, but that was right before Keilwerth had to declare insolvency and was eventually sold to Buffet, who still owns them to this day.
