Selmer Paris S80 Soprano Saxophone Mouthpiece
New Facing Designs!
One of the most iconic saxophone mouthpieces of all time, the S80 soprano mouthpiece has become the standard of reference that teachers & performers use for a quality, hard rubber mouthpiece. The S80 soprano mouthpiece is available in several facing options, but most known for the “C*” (C Star) facing… so much so that many teachers will simply tell their students to “get a Selmer C star” mouthpiece when they are actually referring to the S80 model with the C* facing.
The mouthpiece features a square tone chamber for wonderful tonal complexity at all dynamic levels.
The S80 soprano mouthpiece is available in the following facing sizes: C*, C**, D, E, & F – the further down in the alphabet, the larger the tip opening.

New Facing Designs
Selmer Paris changed all of their facing designs back in approximately 2016, but many websites & facing charts still show the old facing/tip measurements. These changes were to both the tip opening and the facing length. The changes were done to “improve the acoustical response” according to Selmer Paris. The model sizes below are for the current new mouthpiece production. If you would like to read more about the facing design changes, read Dave Kessler’s Blog Post about it here.
Available Sizes
The S80 soprano sax mouthpiece is available in the following sizes:
-
- C* – 1.17 mm Tip
- C** – 1.22 mm Tip
- D – 1.27 mm Tip
- E – 1.32 mm Tip
- F – 1.37 mm Tip
Compare Old vs New Facings
Here is a handy chart that shows the pre 2012 (which is when they started the redesign) facings vs the new & current facings.

Kessler & Sons Music offers a 3 day trial / return policy by default on S80 soprano mouthpieces. There are no cleaning fees or restocking fees (assuming that the item is returned in proper condition).
In order to protect the mouthpiece against scratches & marks when testing, we install a tooth patch before shipping. You are responsible for the condition of the mouthpiece while you are testing it. We highly recommend testing with a fabric style ligature to reduce the risk of scratching. Mouthpieces that are returned with irreparable scratches/marks might not be accepted for return.
Please read our terms & conditions (link at the bottom of the page) for full details on this policy.
