The Conn 16M Tenor Sax (also known as the “Directors Model”) was a solid performing student market horn at that time. While this was nearing the end of Conn’s saxophone history, with models moving to production in Mexico in the 1970’s, this horn was made in 1969 in Nogales, Arizona. While the overall build quality of these horns new was a marked downgrade from Conn’s historic years, the American made Directors models were still solid performing horns, once they were put through the hands of a good technician.

This particular Conn 16M was bought by us in 2016 needing an overhaul. We bought it primarily to use as a loaner/short term rental for players who were used to playing old vintage American horns, while their horns were in the shop for an overhaul. So we completely overhauled it in 2016 and in the end, it saw very little use since this was not part of our standard “rental fleet”. In the end, the horn was only put out on loaner a few times. So as a result, we have decided to sell it.

In the end, the only way to know whether or not this is the right horn for you is to play it. This is why Kessler & Sons Music offers a 3 day trial / return policy on instruments. This gives you the chance to test out of the horn (you have to order it and pay for it first of course) in your own environment and with your mouthpiece setup to make sure you love it. If for some reason you are not 100% happy with the horn, you can then send it back for a full refund (less shipping fees)!
