Kessler Custom Bass Clarinets

Kessler Custom Bass Clarinets have become, hands down, the best-selling instruments in our store. It is rare for a specialty instrument to outsell trumpets, flutes and saxophones, but this bass clarinet is the exception to the rule.

Why? Because we didn’t just build a ‘cheap’ instrument; we offer a professional platform accessible to everyone. By prioritizing the perfect blend of Performance, Quality, & Affordability, we deliver an instrument that defies industry norms. Let’s break down exactly how we achieve this:

Performance

The Kessler Custom Bass Clarinet is designed to bridge the gap between student budgets and professional expectations.

At the heart of this performance is our “Gen 2” bore, which produces a rich, focused core tone that projects with ease. Crucially, every model features a fully automatic Double Register Mechanism. While student models skip this complex mechanism to save cost, we view it as essential. It stabilizes the instrument’s response across the break and ensures impeccable tuning in the upper register – giving you a professional performance advantage that other instruments in this price range simply cannot match.

Quality & Reliability

We have our bass clarinets built to withstand the rigors of the real world. The body is crafted from a synthetic material chosen for its unique combination of durability and acoustic resonance. This ensures a warm, wood-like tone that is completely stable in any environment – perfect for concert performance, doubling, or pit work – especially where wood clarinets are at risk.

We use premium Pisoni leather pads from Italy for reliable, long-lasting performance. Most importantly, every single instrument goes through a full setup in our Las Vegas ProShop. We don’t just “check” them; we refine the keywork and voicing to ensure your horn plays perfectly the moment you open the case.

Unmatched Value

How do we offer professional features and exceptional performance at a student price? The answer is our Direct-to-Customer business model.

By selling our instruments directly to you, we eliminate the “middleman” markup that inflates the price of other major brands. You aren’t paying for a distributor’s profit margin or a massive global marketing budget; you are investing 100% of your money into the instrument itself – and in turn, back into you! This approach allows us to provide the absolute best value on the bass clarinet market, guaranteed.

Gen 2 Evolution
We are relentless in our pursuit of improvement. While our bass clarinets have received glowing reviews for years, the instrument you buy today is even better than the one reviewed in years past. We have continued to refine the Kessler Custom platform with significant upgrades to ensure it remains the market leader in performance value. Some of the notable improvements since the 2nd Gen platform launched include:

  • Enhanced “Gen 2 Plus” Setup: (Standard since January of 2022) We refined our setup process to specifically target the voicing across the break. While this process is more labor-intensive for our technicians, it ensures your instrument offers professional stability and response immediately out of the case.
  • Custom Alloy Neck: (Standard since January of 2023) We upgraded to a new neck design featuring a specific alloy blend chosen for its acoustic properties. This heavier-mass neck produces a richer core tone and significantly improves clarity in the upper register. This neck is exclusive to Kessler Custom bass clarinets and is not found on any other model on the market.
  • Premium Protection: (Standard since January of 2023) We ditched the generic “student” case for a custom-designed, professional-grade case. It offers superior impact protection and storage, so you can transport your instrument with pride and peace of mind. While other brands have since adopted this case style, we were the first to bring it to market, setting the new standard for protection.

Best of all, we achieved these upgrades without the massive price hikes seen elsewhere. Unlike competitors who have raised prices significantly over the last few years, we have maintained our commitment to affordability. We have no plans to change that. Even after the tariff instability of 2025, we fought to keep our increases as small as possible, absorbing much of them ourselves. As tariffs came down, so did our price to customers. In an economic landscape where everything else is getting more expensive, the Kessler Custom Bass Clarinet offers you more value than ever before.
