Powell Sonare 905 Series Flutes
Straubinger Phoenix Pads | 9K Aurumite Barrel & Lip
Solid Silver | Pointed Arms | Gold Springs
Verne Q. Powell flutes have long be known for professional flutes. In 2002, they created a flute revolution by introducing the Sonare brand; combining a professional Powell Solid Silver headjoint with a good intermediate body. Today, the new Powell Sonare flutes have gone even further! Now, not only the headjoint but also the body tubes are made by Powell in the USA. However, Powell has not stopped there… with the new Powell Sonare 905 model, they are taking it to the next level!
Powell Sonare 905
The Powell Sonare 905 builds on the performance and feature set of the 705 (solid silver head & body, pointed arms, gold springs) and takes it up another level. The Powell Sonare 905 has 2 distinct upgrades over the 705 that really enhance the flute:
- Straubinger Phoenix Pads (padded in the USA by Powell)
- 9K Aurumite Barrel & Lip Standard
Straubinger Phoenix Pads
Straubinger pads are used on the world’s highest end professional flutes. In 2009, Straubinger released the Phoenix pad. This pad was designed to provide a performance closer to their highest end professional pads but also be able to be used in a flute that was not $10,000+. These pads still require a higher end caliber of manufacturing as well as a more skilled technician to work on, but their use in the Powell Sonare 905 flutes helps to drastically elevate their performance above the 705 Series instruments that use felt pads.
Even though the felt pads used in the Sonare 705 are of the highest quality, the Straubinger Phoenix pads are a noticeable jump. As the core of the pad is a machined delrin core, there is far less acoustic absorption at the pad (felt is a natural acoustic dampener) allowing for a more vibrant and powerful response from the flute. The “feel” of the pads is also closer to the immense stability found in $10,000+ flutes as a result of the Phoenix pad.
The only downside to the Straubinger Phoenix pad used on the Powell Sonare 905 is that they do require a higher caliber of technician to work on. So as a result, you really only want to purchase your flute and have it serviced by a capable shop, one trained in how to work with Straubinger pads. Kessler & Sons Music is a Straubinger certified shop so we are able to fill both of those requirements!
9k Aurumite Barrel
The Powell Sonare 905 also features a 9k Aurumite headjoint barrel on the body and a 9k Aurumite lip plate by default. The Aurumite is a metal process that sees a sheet of gold fused to a sheet of silver before the metal is then used in manufacturing. This helps add the mass from the gold (far more than any plating can do) thus giving the flute that richer, sweeter tone associated with gold, but at a fraction of the all gold cost. The Powell Sonare 905 can also be upgrade to a full Aurumite headjoint at additional cost.
2nd Generation Headjoint
The Powell Sonare 905 Series flutes feature the new 2nd Generation Solid Silver “Signature Series” headjoint. This new model incorporates the lip plate from the Powell Philharmonic headjoint with the Signature cut. The end result is more power, projection and response.
The Powell Sonare 905 redefines professional affordability!
Professional Setup
Every Powell Sonare 905 Series Flute that we send out to a customer is not released from us unless it has been completely setup in our shop first. This is because the setup on your flute is of the utmost importance! Sometimes, an instrument (regardless of who the manufacturer or the price point is) comes in needing 20 minutes of adjustments and then the very next one can require 2 hours!
This is why we perform our setup in our ProShop (Straubinger Certified) on your new Powell Sonare 905 Series Flute before delivering it to you. You trust us with your purchase and we want to make sure that you are rewarded by giving you your new flute setup flawlessly!
