Julie Ivy is a flutist and music teacher with extensive experience. She teaches music theory, aural skills and counterpoint at UNLV, and is a three-time recipient of the College of Fine Arts Part-Time Instructor of year award. She played flute and piccolo with the Nashua Symphony Orchestra, was the principal flutist of the Nevada Chamber Symphony, performed with the Nevada Pops Orchestra and the Las Vegas Woodwind Quintet. She was the Assistant Music Director at First Presbyterian Church, where she directed the children’s and youth choirs, hand bell choirs, and the church orchestra. She has been the director of the Sirocco Flute Ensemble since 2018.

Her dedication to nurturing talent is evident in her exceptional private flute students, who’ve been chosen for international and national orchestras, CCSD Honor Bands, and All-State Band and Orchestra. Her students have won the MTNA Silver State Competition, and the Henderson Symphony Concerto Competition.

Many of her students have gone on and gained admission to esteemed programs like the Colburn School of Music, The New England Conservatory, UNLV, UNR, and The Interlochen Arts Academy. She is member of the Musicians Union, the Las Vegas Flute Club, The National Flute Association, The National Music Teachers Association, and has adjudicated MTNA, All-State, and Solo and Ensemble competitions.
