Yamaha 450II Duet+ Clarinet – 2nd Gen Model YCL-450IINM
Injection Molded Bore to Prevent Cracking
After extensive research and testing with educators and players, the new YCL-450II second generation intermediate clarinets from Yamaha bring improved sound, response and added durability. Built around the already proven record of the Yamaha 450, the new 2nd Generation models feature an upgraded bore and leather pads. On top of the new model, Yamaha is also continuing their impressive Duet+ bore for the upper joint to combine exceptional performance and durability in a complete package with the new YCL-450IINM.
When Yamaha designed the 450 Series clarinets, they conceived it as an instrument that a player just starting out, would want to continue playing well into the future. Part of that concept revolved not only in performance characteristics, but also addressing the durability issues inherent with student musicians using a wood clarinet. To address this concept to its fullest potential, Yamaha released the Duet Clarinet concept.
Duet Clarinet Bore
The Yamaha 450 Duet+ Clarinet utilizes the same bore and key design of the intermediate Yamaha 450 clarinets. With the Duet+ model, the upper joint has the wood intentionally over-cut with both it’s bore and tonehole diameters. This upper joint is then injected using a Thermoplastic ABS resin so that the entire bore of the upper joint (clarinet & toneholes) are one solid piece of ABS plastic. However, since the exterior of the joint is Grenadilla wood, the player receives both the performance of a wood clarinet but with the enhanced durability from the plastic bore. The execution of this concept and this particular instrument is one of the primary reasons that we wanted to become Yamaha dealers! The Yamaha 450 Duet Clarinet is one of the most impressively manufactured intermediate clarinets on the market!
Additional Information
Professional Setup
Every instrument we send out to a customer is not released from us unless it has been completely setup in our shop first. This is because the setup on a musical instrument is of the utmost importance! Sometimes, a clarinet (regardless of who the manufacturer) comes in needing 20 minutes of adjustments and then the very next one can require 2 hours! So if you were to get 5 of the same model right out of the box, they will all play different. This leads players to believe that they are “good” or “bad” clarinets. The reality is that the one that was the best out of the 5 was likely the one that needed the least amount of work and the “bad” clarinet was the one that needed 2 hours worth of adjustments!
Once the same 5 clarinets are properly regulated and adjusted to perfection, they become near identical instruments. Even the pickiest of players would be challenged to pick a true “favorite”. However, since most stores do not or even can not perform this setup, the player never knows this and is simply relying on the luck of the draw. This is why we perform our setup (in our www.ClarinetRepairs.com ProShop) on them before delivering your new clarinet to you. You trust us with your purchase and we want to make sure that you are rewarded by giving you your ideal instrument setup flawlessly!
